Why are they shocked that a conservative like Carney would cut pharmacare? Gotta take the money we could spend on healthcare to appease Trumps NATO spending targets…
How does one get shocked by an action that hasn’t taken place yet .
Also, if all the provinces haven’t signed on yet, is this not an indicator that changes should be made to a program that hasn’t been effective nationally after this amount of time has passed .
How do we make it more viable with the provincal governments?

I don’t know if the minister’s being noncommittal to the future of the program here or just noncommittal to closing the deal with other provinces in the coming months for the sake of message discipline–tariffs are their brand at the moment. I suppose the ambiguity alone is a problem.
I will say that if they renege on this campaign promise, that will haunt them for the rest of their tenure.
Not surprising seeing as the liberals only did this to appease the NDP. Now that NDP is irrelevant, do not expect them to pursue any of these programs.
Were people really under the belief that Carney could inherit a massive deficit, make sky high spending promises for new programs, cut taxes and not have to cut anything?
Shouldn’t be. It only covered two things which don’t benefit the vast majority of people. It is provincial jurisdiction. Maybe Singh can try running there again.
I think this is an easy target to cut since it hadn’t been implemented yet. It won’t feel like anything is being taken away. Most people probably didn’t even know there was an approved pharmacare program. I don’t think they will suffer much political damage if any for not moving forward with it.
Makes sense. If defense spending is the priority, the cuts will have to come from somewhere. Less pills, more bombs

NDP’ers you votes for this. I know you dont think you did, but how many of you voted for the Liberals to stop Polievre and the CPC from ripping up the stuff Singh did with Trudeau?
Trudeau’s legacy will be economically screwing our country for 10 years, dividing Canadians like never before, and leaving the country worse off for „sunny ways“.
Carney is the next Mulroney, he will most likely be voted out next election because of the things he does to fix the mess a Trudeau made of our country.
Please remember dont vote a Trudeau in again, we cannot afford a third Trudeau in this country, we are a well off country, but not that well off and they will really economically screw this country right down the gutter if you do it again.
Let’s just hope you have all learnt your lesson, vote for the party you most align with and dont just vote for someone to keep the other person out. Yes this would be happening under the CPC right now if you didn’t vote to keep them out. But that is what the CPC does, fix the messes left by the Liberals.
Next let’s hope that Carney realizes that Canada cannot afford to buy back the hunting and sporting rifles that the Liberals and crazily anti-gun groups lied and deceived Canadians into banning. And how about letting us transfer handguns again. It’s not like those laws have done 1 positive thing as gun crime is now worse then before the laws.
The NDP had the power to push for things before with the Trudeau government but they willingly decided to break the supply & confidence agreement.
I don’t blame the Liberals for moving the needle back where they normally position themselves, but more the NDP for thinking they could do better alone (which obviously isn’t the case).
Maybe provinces should stop thinking that they can focus on economic development (which brings cash to the province) while leaving social services (which cost money) to the federal government. I mean, ALL provinces should have a good PROVINCIAL healthcare system.
Isn’t what provinces want? Less mingling of the federal in their „affairs“?
I don’t know how anyone can be surprised by this. Carney has typical progressive conservative values and ethics that lead to austerity politics. They will always find huge amounts of money for war given their hawkish nature. And they’re always able to make „tough decisions“ when it comes to cutting funding to essential programs and spending that Canadians rely on for survival and well being. This is boilerplate neoliberal austerity and prioritization.
My goodness. How could we have possibly predicted that the same government that reduced the capital gains tax, removed the carbon tax, cut immigration, promised to slash the public service, build pipelines, massively inflate the military, etc. would take a politically conservative position on this subject.
