Laut Starrer wird Großbritannien den palästinensischen Staat anerkennen, es sei denn, Israel stimmt einem Waffenstillstand zu

    1. So ehh… What would be the borders of this Palestinian state? And who will be its recognized leader?

    2. Great, and do what? Set up an embassy there and start trade with terrorists?

Wish the west would stop simping for terrorist states. It’s getting tiring.

Gotta give it to Hamas, making progress on the political front – just had to start a war. Doesn’t matter if they ‚lose‘ the war, as long as they are fine with sacrificing their own people rather then giving up power they win

Israel already agreed to a ceasefire in the past week or so. Hamas rejected it.

The UK is also requiring a two state solution, and no West Bank annexation, which Israel will not agree to despite both being clearly required by international law and previous agreements. It would instantly destroy the government coalition.

Full conditions are: unless the Israeli government takes substantive steps to end the appalling situation in Gaza, reaches a ceasefire, makes clear there will be no annexation in the West Bank, and commits to a long-term peace process that delivers a two-state solution

That’s BS. Either recognize Palestine or don’t. But you can’t make it contingent on something else.

That’s like saying to my wife „I will not like your dress unless you go and make me a cup of tea.“

Why not recognise a Palestinian state and still push for a ceasefire?

    8. I’ll believe it when I see it – Starmer has been quite pro-Israel. Also, the recognition should totally be in favor of the Palestinian Authority, not anything associated with Hamas.

Hamas has rejected and broken like 10 cease fires so far. All these European countries coming in for a “two state solution” that has been rejected by Palestine and the rest of the ME since its founding

    10. I wish these world leaders would stop edging and just blow the recognition load. Then they could get that post nut clarity that they are still living in a dump and maybe they should get to handle their own problems already.

    11. The UK basically guaranteed there won’t be a ceasefire until after the UK’s September deadline. All Hamas has to do is wait and they’ll have a new G7 country on their side. Great fucking idea genius. Not to mention this puts all the onus on Israel instead of the terrorists

    12. So if there’s a ceasfire, UK will not?

Sounds like something they don’t really want but feels forced to use as a threat.

      That’s lukewarm. Bad form.

A ceasefire deal needs TWO sides agreeing on the conditions. Hamas does not agree on those conditions (And they’re not asking for „complete disarmament and surrender“ for a temporary ceasefire). Force Hamas, or Qatar as the medium to accept the ceasefire too then, otherwise it’s not happening

    14. Well I guess they should recognize Palestine as there is zero chance Israel agrees to that – there are certain parts of this request that are reasonable and some are not. I guess let’s just inflame this whole thing to the end for no gain

    15. carltonlost on

So Hamas stays in power and keeps the hostages, they are asking for Israel to accept the repeat of October 7th, they are asking Israel to surrender to Hamas, the UK are now the supporters of Hamas

    16. What happens when missiles keep flying from a, now internationally recognized, Palestinian state? Will it be an act of war, and would Israel have casus belli to invade and take over?

    17. Upset-Bet9303 on

“Jews can’t protect themselves from people who murder and kidnap their citizens. If they do , we will support their enemies.”

Europe has fallen back to its 20th century roots.

    18. BadHombreSinNombre on

This is a very stupid conditioning.

If Israel doesn’t agree to a ceasefire, that somehow makes Palestine more of a state than it already is or isn’t?

If Israel does agree to a ceasefire, suddenly Palestine is LESS of a state?

      It just defies sense entirely.

    19. This is just bonkers because recognition should not be based on that. They’re basically admitting that they would recognize it already if not for political pressure.

    20. NegevThunderstorm on

Nothing about the hostages or the terrorists?

Fine, go ahead and recognize it and see how much help that is!

    21. kahnindustries on

      Serious question

If Palestine becomes a state then Israel won’t be required to supply power food or water. Do they have alternatives ready? From Egypt maybe?

    22. Using a Palestinian state as a blackmail against Israel is quite telling.

    23. So now Palestine gets acknowledged by UK if Hamas refuses to negotiate, but gets not acknowledged if Hamas decides to cooperate.

How blatantly do they want to incentivize terrorists to maintain terrorism?

Sorry, it can’t be ignored that successful negotiations, by definition, require agreement by two parties, at least. Except one wants to force one side into surrendering, of course.

    24. Isn’t all this rather pointless unless Hamas and the PLO both agree?

And there should be terms in the agreement making Palestinian government responsible for ensuring no terrorist attacks, and provisions for what happens if they won’t/can’t. Recognition of Palestinian statehood should be contingent on the violence ending.

    25. Why_No_Doughnuts on

So agree to all of Hamas’s demands to keep them from walking out, or we will reward Hamas for not agreeing? Israel has agreed to the terms of the cease fire, Hamas has been the one not negotiating in good faith.
