Mars moves. The moon moves. The earth moves.
We all move in circles around the sun (mars and earth) or around the earth (moon).
In all this endless movements, sometimes things happen to line up. Like last night, if you looked at the moon, you could see mars just next to it *waaay of in the distance*. (Mars is bigger than the moon, but because it is so far it looks much smaller)
You had to look last night, because by tomorrow, we, the moon, and mars, will all have moved and things won’t line up anymore.
It depends on your location. All credible sources I looked up on the Internet say Mars is close to the Moon, not covered by it. If you saw a source saying it would be covered, it’s clickbait.
I used Stellarium software to have a look, and it shows that you’d have to be in Antarctida to see the Moon covering Mars. For the rest of the world, Mars is near the Moon at various distances depending on your location in the world.
What would be the point of looking at the Moon covering Mars? Wouldn’t you just see the Moon?
