Reform UK by-election candidate has come under sharp criticism after historic Facebook posts revealed a string of homophobic remarks and conspiracy theories.

David Ian Jarvis, standing for the party in the [Barnstaple](https://www.devonlive.com/all-about/barnstaple) Westacott by-election, has shared content online describing homosexuality as a “sin” and ridiculing LGBT+ events.

In one post from August 2021, Mr Jarvis reposted a testimonial from a woman who claimed to have renounced homosexuality, overlaying the message, “many people try to excuse their sin by saying ‘I was born this way’… which is why Jesus said, ‘you must be born again’,” against the backdrop of a rainbow flag.

In another post, he referred to Gay Pride Month as “Angry Person Month”.

The Facebook account, which appears to be publicly accessible and active for over a decade, also includes conspiracy-related material.

Among the content, Mr Jarvis promoted a protest against “geoengineering”, warning about purported “harmful chemicals” being dispersed into the atmosphere.

The revelations come in the wake of recent controversy surrounding another Reform UK member.

Rory Green, a councillor with the party, was the subject of a report by the *Express* which found he had previously exchanged messages with an al-Qaeda terrorist linked to the 9/11 attacks. Mr Green remains in office.

A spokesperson for Devon Conservatives responded: “Either Reform UK didn’t vet their candidate, or they’re happy for homophobia and conspiracy theories to be on the ballot in their name.

„Voters deserve to know, is this just one candidate’s fringe behaviour, or a glimpse of how Reform would run the council?”

David Ian Jarvis scored 985 votes in the Barnstaple North local election, being beaten by Syed Jusef for the Lib Dems who gained 1,433 votes.

Devon Live has approached both Reform UK and Mr Jarvis multiple times and have received no comment..

If you’ve got time to mock gay pride, you’ve got time to secretly love cock, that’s what I’ve noticed in life.

Yep, this person is going to be angry about pride all month.

    4. None of these are fringe incidents. One is an unfortunate mishap, two is unlucky, but three, four, five, six… Etc is a consistent pattern of behaviour.

Either this is who they want, or they’re consistently failing to vet candidates properly. Neither is good.

    5. Just a government smear campaign, they are unhinged people in all the parties many many of them, interestingly you don’t see articles about them in labour or conservatives, liberal Democrats or the greens just about the party threatening the establishment!

Reform will always turn out angry idiots like this one.

In this case every accusation is a confession.

    7. Wow, I can’t believe the party that appeals almost exclusively to bigots and conspiracy theorists contained a bigoted conspiracy theorist.

    8. I’m not really bothered, im as gay as the day is long and I too mock gay pride.

    9. You mean to tell me that Reform are attracting bigots and conspiracy theorists. Here I thought they were just a one trick pony.

How could Nigel „allowing gay marriage was a mistake“ farage possibly have missed homophobia in his own party?

Plenty of homphobes and/or nonces in all the established parties.

Phew, for a second there I was worried a Reform candidate had done something dangerous, like sympathize with Palestine Action.
