Yeah I think we should be going full tilt right now. Let’s expand our export capabilities.
My bigger problem is how we spend our excess royalties/revenues from fossil fuel projects. I actually liked the carbon tax, but tbh 100% of it should have gone towards renewable infrastructure instead of giving people money back. We need to seriously push into things like Nuclear, aim for solar arrays on every building/home, exploration into the new French non-blade windmills, Geothermal expansion where possible, building a BYD EV plant here for cheap electric cars etc. Then focus on exporting as much O&G as possible.
They probably should have polled specific projects that were axed in the past to gauge public acceptance. Do Canadians support any pipelines in either direction and are they fine with any potential route?
I do like the prospect of the next generation being able to exist outside during the summer when they’re adults…. leave it in the ground. Every new piece of infrastructure that helps extract one morw barrel of oil that could have been left underground is a failure. The US is a major threat right now but CO2 is an existential threat to our species
Not a very useful poll imo. This is one of those issues where people love it in principle, but hate any implementation. Ask about more specific projects for a more meaningful answer.
But it’s not up for the majority of Canadians to decide. Neither provincial sovereignty nor treaty rights are subject to the democratic will.
It’s been clear the NIMBYs got their people into positions of power and have been coasting for the past decade or so. Mostly to enrich themselves via inflating property values, opposing development and generally protecting their own selfish interests.
Would be great if Canadians were benefitting from it the way some other countries are instead of just enriching the Saudis, the Chinese, and random megacorps.
Seems we give away most of our wealth and get crumbs to justify it. We should look to places like Norway for better oil wealth management for Canada vs just playing a silly game where we destroy our environment without it even being worth our while.
do they want it if tax payers money goes to build it? The oil companies say its not economically viable for them to build them. They want us to foot the bill while they reap the profits.
