There are just so many conflicts of interest problems with lawmakers drawing districts.

All blue states should start hardcore gerrymandering. We should be playing by GOP rules.
Should be drawn by a computer where the district is the closest most compact shape that looks like a square or circle. There should be no humans involved and no account for any of the actual voters.
Easier said then done but if we can draw districts that take account for the actual number of party voters then we just remove that aspect and you are almost there.
I refuse to believe that this is a hard problem to solve.
