While I would still love to see an elected Senate with term limits, there are two reforms I would love to see happen, neither of which requires a constitutional change. The first is that the Senate should be meeting five days a week like the HoC, not three as it is now. The second is that Senate vacancies should be filled as expeditiously as ones in the lower chamber. No one loves the patronage system, but if we are to be stuck with it for now, there’s no reason for vacancies to go on for months, even years.
