Good on France for having an independent foreign policy.

France is also doing this to piss them off, Palestine is just a bargain token at this point, I doubt they really care for the people or even if they do recognize it would France fight in their name or, what would it mean?

It’s important to be clear here that the position of the US -sphere, including France, was always in favor of a two state solution. But that Palestine had to renounce terrorism and accept Israel’s existence as a condition for that recognition.
“We WILL recognize a Palestinian state IF a Palestinian government exists that rejects terrorism and is committed to peace”.
What Macron is doing is removing the conditions for Palestinians to achieve statehood.
Why is this destructive from the US/Israel POV? Because it accomplishes nothing, and it gets Hamas to dig in its heels. It makes a ceasefire harder to reach, because Hamas sees progress in its strategy.
The deal proposed by the US was absurdly lopsided for Hamas given how badly they are losing the actual war.
Israel gives up 1,000 prisoners, including 200 terrorists with life sentences, and withdraws and ends the war. In exchange, Hamas gives up 10 of its 20 remaining hostages.
But Hamas smells blood in the water in the West, so it says no. And immediately, they get rewarded by Macron for drawing the war out. Not only this announcement, but France also just today released a terrorist leader who murdered a Mossad agent an a US military attache in Paris (which Hamas asked for).
Macron knows this, he’s not an idiot. But it helps him politically, so he does it anyways.
The bigger picture here is that Macron likely just shot any potential for more Ukrainian aid in the foot.
There is a sizeable share of Congress that is on the fence with more Ukraine aid and pro Israel. ‘You’re going to stab us in the back on Israel? Fine. Don’t ask for help against Russia’.
Europe is allowed to go its own way of course and can release terrorists that murdered US diplomats on its soil. But the US is also allowed to draw down and stop its current assistance to Europe. It’s been heading in that direction and I think the past two days have accelerated it. I don’t think anyone benefits here, except Hamas and Macron.
