What I find puzzling is, if you don’t trust the US (as McQuaig certainly doesn’t), shouldn’t you support a stronger Canadian military? The weaker the Canadian military, the more we’re at the mercy of the US.
The author brings up Coyne’s excellent point – that there simply aren’t enough wealthy people in the country to pay for all this – and then acts like arguing for a wealth tax instead of increases to top marginal income tax rates addresses it – but it doesn’t.
A 2% wealth tax *might* bring in $20B. That’s not nothing, but it is a miniscule slice of the extra revenue we need.
