Fantastic to see hospitality get cuts and not pass it on to the consumer
I dont see how they can push forward with this without massive backlash. A giveaway to a tiny group at the expense of everyone else is political suicide
Hmmm….how many people will benefit from this, vs keeping the VAT on electricity at 9% next year, or increasing the income tax credit?

Prices won’t be lowered so nobody will have an incentive to spend more and low paid, insecure workers will still be low paid, insecure workers.
Yes, there are struggling businesses who can barely keep the lights on. But on the whole, this is a tax cut for some of the wealthiest people in the country while ordinary workers get nothing.
What is the obsession with cutting VAT for the hospitality sector? It won’t be passed on to the customer (we’ve been there, done that) and in the grand scheme of things the savings will be negligible to prevent closures for businesses that are currently struggling.
I’d argue that using the money to cut income tax would probably have a better stimulus effect by giving people extra money to spend in small cafes and restaurants.

I’m sorry what? It hasn’t stopped you before. 2016 FG promised to abolish the USC, then after Pascal claimed it sad never temporary (it was). 2020 Leo said he’d increase the threshold to the higher rate of tax to 50K.
The icing on the cake for me though is the entire government claiming they built 40K houses last year to get back into power.
I’m against giving the hospitality sector a vat cut. If the businesses fail, let them fail. Free market economy.
