Maybe install a lucky charm object near by that is specifically designed to be rubbed ?

Then spread a rumour that it’s magic and will bring you great luck if you get a rub off it!

Just don’t get the OPW to do it or it’ll cost 2 billion.

oh jesus would these people give it a rest you grab the statue the way you do for good luck relax people

Maybe ignore it. Who gives a shit? Every statue in Europe has polished balls or tits. This gets way too much focus.

    4. The best part of this news is for taxpayers, as there’ll be a few less tax munchers.

„Dublin City Council will no longer employ stewards to stop tourists from groping the Molly Malone statue“

Won’t make a difference……….the portal has planters near it, but people still touch the screen.

Just electrify the statue, hook it up to the mains

      That will learn em

Is this really the most pressing problem the council has to deal with? Really?

Oh will ya ever fuck off with this shite. And can we deport that busker already?

    9. There are actual people affected by real crimes that don’t get this level of interest or attention.

If someone steps on the flowers to get to the statue, will it be worse that they damaged a living thing or touched an inanimate piece of bronze?

    11. Just heard about this on the news. It’s ridiculous. The whole thing is a (fairly recent) tradition and a bit of feckin fun. People take it much too seriously.

Paddwhackery in its rawest purest form. We think we’ve moved on from The Moving Statues era but we haven’t really. The fact that the council entertains this crap is just wrong.

    13. Oh good.

Now there will be statue rubbing, surrounded by a bed of trampled.flowers.

      Progress.

Nice little area for addicts to dump their needles like nearly every green space in the city.

The only person who’s ever harmed the statue is that bint who keeps painting over the chest and complaining to the papers?

Why hasn’t she gotten trouble for that? She’s the vandal here

    16. let them touch it ffs. St. Peters foot in the Vatican is rubbed flat over the centuries

I mean… it’s a Feckin statue seriously molesting WTF is wrong with people

    18. Can we maybe get ‘molesting’ of actual residents (my senses certainly feel molested whenever I have to go into town) under control, before we start raising hell over perhaps a tad immature for some, but ultimately harmless, thing? Just around two corners from there (Dame St., near what used to be Ulster Bank I think), there’s a spot that’s reeked of piss every time for as long as I can remember, and I’d be surprised if there weren’t a few sleeping bags or tents here and there.

Can we not do the bare minimum to keep the place tidy, as one of the “richest” countries in Europe (/ the world)? Quotes used for a reason, but even if we’re just rich on paper, let’s at least look the part 🤣

    19. I think everyone involved would agree to a Euro per grope, it could go to the widows and orphans

Edit: it’s in the song anyway: “In Dublin’s fair city, where the girl has bronze titties…”

    20. Should plop her ontop of the Spire alongside anyone in the council that’s been paid with taxpayer money to think about solutions to this.

    21. I’d be incredibly curious to know the budget spent to put together an expert team to figure out a solution of a irrelevant problem

Who cares? The bill for these flowers is going to be somewhere in the range of €200,000 probably as well. Focus on the real issues of the people
