I can’t remember the last time I paid under €4 for an Americano.
I’ve never liked milky coffee but now I feel like I should get a latte or something if I’m ever out for coffee just to make the most of it.
Pretty sure we are there already. I don’t buy coffee out anymore for this reason. Fair enough with a barista making it but paying full price for a service station machine to make a shite coffee is beyond me.
This is why I only have coffee at home and limit myself to small espresso macchiatos/cortados and filter when home’s not an option. The milk bomb coffee capitalism is inflated and obnoxious.
I make much nicer coffee at home.
Something is going wrong with expenses.
It’s not like barista is making a huge profit…
So who is?

Most black coffees in petrol stations are around the 4 euro mark now. Even in the „cheaper“ west of Ireland.
I would imagine 5 euro lattes are quite common.
A Starbucks Venti Latte is €5.50 and people pay it so plenty of money about.
It’s one thing paying for €4+ for a coffee if it’s good but several times I’ve had to send it back now as they have clueless staff who burn the beans and the coffee tastes rancid, yet they continue to serve it and hope nobody says anything. I’d never be one to send back a meal or whatever but I’ve reached my limit recently. Sorry but if you’re charging top dollar for a coffee supposedly made by a barista then it needs to be at least edible.
It’s pure profit, plain and simple. People can talk about the price of a coffee bean, but the markup on coffee is unbelievable.
Any coffee van operator in a decent location is making a fine living. 30c of coffee, 15c of milk, and a 20c paper cup. The machines and labour are more obviously, but those prices fluctuate depending on how many cups are sold. There has to be a €1.50 profit on a cup at least.
It’s alright to get one as a treat now and then, but I know people that buy €4+ coffees maybe twice a day during the work week. I have a Moka Pot at home and bring that in the morning for proper strong coffee and then I just use instant later in the day. You’ll save a lot of money that way.
Hedge funds don’t decide the price of coffee.
New product ideas are always upping the price…. People just run and buy…. Eg. Machi latte, bubble tea, Dubai chocolate.
Investing in a proper coffee machine at home has saved me so much money. And also reduced my plastic consumption
People annoyed by this but will happily pay €7 a pop for a feed of pints.
Great so it’ll only take 548 years of not buying them to become a millionaire.
Just don’t buy it.. problem solved. Coffee is not anything you need to survive, it’s something you want.
Would it be illegal to just start doing filter coffee pour for like 1.50 a cup out of a coffee van I rent and place somewhere in town?
Like beans, especially wholesale (even the good stuff) is pretty cheap – like a 100e for about 5kg of the premium cafe stuff.

What do they mean by “far off”? They are “far off” if you turn around and look behind you because we passed €5 coffees about 12 months ago.
Like – is it going cheaper or something? At one hospital large hazelnut latte costs 5.30. In other place where they are roasting coffee regular latte is 5.10 .
Lidl have there version of azera. Orange cover silver tin. Americano
It’s just delicious coffee. 3.50 a tin. Amazing stuff altogether.
I’m pretty sure €5 Latte is already in a lot of Cafes.
Not that anyone should ever go there, but Starbucks is definitely above €5 already I’d imagine.
A caffine addiction is a crutch, go decafe and never feel the need again to splurge 5notes on small hot cup of milky liquid.
3fe beside O Brien’s pub, paid over 5€ for a hottish oat flat white-The barista rolled her eyes when I ordered. Made me laugh. Absolute fuckery.

Is it just me or are the big money men intent on destroying everything the last few years?
I was surprised earlier on today, I was meeting friends and everyone went for a coffee. We were all paying separately because we are cheap like that!!
Area I just asked the girl for a mocha; I was pleasantly surprised when I went to pay and they only wanted three euro. I am in Galway city by the way.
There is a price sensitivity and elasticity to products like luxury coffees etc. if they get too expensive people just will not buy them or end up totally avoiding the coffee shop or restaurant in the first place.
This means that they won’t buy the snacks or the food also, increasing the price of coffees too much is something that stands out people will remember, it will cost place is very dearly in the long term.

I’ve been paying 5 euros or more at any cafe. But I need oat milk cause of an allergy and it’s almost always +0.5
I’d pay a fiver for a proper Latte in a nice cafe
I don’t know anywhere that is good that charges above maybe 4.20 for coffee.
Anyone paying highish prices for poor quality coffee , and I include the insomnia, Starbucks etc in that needs their head examined
I work in a bar and have always said they should be the same price as a pint. They’re a pain in the arse to make and I can make multiple cocktails in the same time as a latte
The McDonalds Flat White recently went up by either 30 or 40 cent. A big increase. I buy before the cinema, as its neat door, but may as well now walk another 20 metres up the street & spend another 20-30 cent & get a better coffee. Decisions, decisions…. 🤔
