Just do it. Get it passed in both houses and schedule a date for the ballot election for it to get approved. Colorado and Minnesota need to do the same if they can

What’s the point of changing legislative maps when we see rule of law, due process, and every constitutional guarantee effectively thrown out the door? Trump has SCOTUS, Congress and media all capitulating. Armed federal agents and military marching in the streets of Los Angeles like an occupational force.

      This is tyranny, not politics.

This is crazy talk, I know, but maybe gerrymandering should be illegal and districts drawn to reflect real world communities.

    4. PostMerryDM on

We would not be here had Biden’s administration had the fortitude to pack the Supreme Court.

Millions are set to die from Trump’s policies, and extraordinary times demand extraordinary actions.

Inplement anti-redistricting measures when we no longer have a child sex trafficker in the White House. Until then, just play by the rules, implicit and explicit.

Every single state where Democrats have a majority must take action to accomplish the goal. Same strategy that GOP uses, Democrats must also to remain viable.

    6. Why „threaten“? Why not just do it?

The best way to evaluate any politician is to ignore what they say, and see what they do. Nobody gives a shit about a bunch of talk.

    7. williamgman on

Don’t threaten. Do it. They are doing it. This is not a drill. No more „strongly worded letters“.

    8. Until gerrymandering is illegal federally, any state that can counter a red state gerrymander, should.

Good. Time to fight fire with fire, and get them to expose their hypocrisy. When one side doesn’t play by the rules, the rules become a hindrance. This is war.

    10. I hate gerrymandering but the left needs to realize that the right lies and cheats. They aren’t even playing by the same set of rules.

    11. KnotSoSalty on

Good. To fix gerrymandering will require federal action. States acted in good faith but that is not a solution to corruption.

    12. ciel_lanila on

      Fair enough. Now do it.

Someone has to be the bigger person I descalation, but Republicans are too used to Democrats being the bigger person and door mats. Well past time to show Republicans why descalation is desirable.

    13. Fucking DO IT ALREADY!! They. Plan. On. You. Being. The. Only. One
      To. Play. By. „The rules“.

    14. No-Tomatillo-7566 on

He should start taking active steps, perhaps that would back down Texas GOP’ers and Trump. One thing is damn sure, Democrats „threats“ are not a deterrent to GOP overreach.

    15. MoneyTalks45 on

It’s already been held up by the SC. Just do it everywhere. Give them exactly what they are giving to you.

    16. JustaSeedGuy on

      About fucking time.

The rules only work if both sides use the same ones.

If you’re playing chess and the other guy points a gun at you, you’re an idiot if you keep trying to fight him using chess pieces.

    17. Do it anyway.

There is no such thing as the high road. The vile scum reslumlicans lie, cheat and steal as a methodology.

The left needs to do the same.

Just hold your nose and do it.

    18. I really like Newsom a lot, but his bluster needs to either stop or he needs to follow through. We need a leader who will stand up and be as vicious as Republicans usually are

    19. Just do it. The GOP fights dirty, the left is going to need to as well if they want to have a chance of stoping the fascist onslaught.

    20. Just do it anyways. Who gives a shit what MAGA is doing. Time to take this country back.

    21. ChinookKing on

First step to winning a war, is to wake the fuck up and realize you’re at war!  Do it.  Enough talk, fn do it.

    22. He just needs to do it now because it will get bogged down in court/committees. Threatening Texas isnt going to stop them from gerrymandering, its a waste of time, just do it. All blue states should be trying to maximize house seats without spreading districts too thin. And I fuckin hate gerrymandering but if they are going to be this blatant with it, you have to fight fire with fire.

Why do we still pretend to live in a democracy? Our votes aren’t and weren’t equal before due to how representatives work and how states are delegated their amounts. All the tampering on who votes, how voting happens, and yes these maps, make our democracy a farce. That’s not me saying Newscom is wrong here, but a general look at how our government as a whole hasn’t truly represented us, forever.

    24. Spaceman-Spiff on

All blue states should gerrymander so there is a strong dem lead in the house. Then pass a law banning gerrymandering.

    25. bionic_cmdo on

Do it. We all know republicans would do it in a heartbeat if they could. The Democrats decorum has eroded their own power.

    26. Don’t threaten to do it, just fucking DO IT. What are democrats waiting for? I know some blue states actually have reasonable procedures in place for this sort of thing, unlike red states that just leave it up to a little committee with little or no oversight whatsoever (and if there IS any oversight, it’s by grossly partisan blocs). But damn, if they’re going to gerrymander us out of any representation in red states, what the hells are waiting for in blue ones??

    27. MisterStorage on

Do it in every Blue state, not just California! Eventually, change the laws everywhere to redistrict fairly by bipartisan commission. But until that day comes, it’s game on.
