At some point the judges have to wake up to this silly story of changed man seeing the error of his ways. It’s too common and bull. Ah I have to be there for the Childer. No consequences means things just get worse. He has 22 previous convictions for a reason. Guarantee he will have 22 more by the time he is 30.
why in the fuck would someone jailed for items such as those be even considered for appeal?
The judges should be made experience what the gardai have to put up with on a day to day on call outs arresting and processing scrotes only to have their charges minimized or throw out because „he’s a reformed lad“ by the judges cut the gardai’s power and respect in the community. And ye wonder why there’s scumbags running riot on motorbikes and thieving because there’s little to no reprocussions.
I honestly think this has gotten so unbelievably out of hand. There should be an independent board to determine sentences and ratify them. Broader public are put at risk as a result of this shite.
Desperately need a new prison. Judges are aware of the chronic overcrowding situation and are letting scumbags like this off on a daily basis. This has larger consequences for society, illustrated by the gangs of young scumbags running amok with no fear or respect for authority.
I don’t know how safe Ireland is or isn’t.
What I do know is that this is opposite extreme of US shoot on sight problem. Zero consequences even after 100s of convictions.
It is a miracle crime rate is not higher.
It’s really simple: prisons don’t reduce crime. Let’s not make the same mistakes as USA or UK
The length of your sentence has now become less about your actual crime and more about what your sob story is.
