Hallo,
M25 in Schweden.

You have to learn simple german first and when you are proficient with it you can start learning dialect words. The words are mostly the same, just the way they are pronounced is a bit different, but that varies from region to region
I think learning normal German via Duolingo etc. is best at first until you are somewhat proficient, learning the dialects afterwards is much easier as most words and grammar are the same. In my experience it is pretty easy to learn even strong dialects like swiss German in a very short timeframe if you can speak normal German well.
You learn Standard german.
Attempting to learn some local dialect from afar is both pointless and almost impossible. Plus, there is no unified Austrian language, identifying what local dialect you are likely to encounter and finding actual learning ressources for it will be damn near impossible. Dialects are learned by interaction, not by studying.
If you are fluent and comfortable in standard german, you will pick up some local dialect anyway.
Greetings from Innsbruck. If you want to move there… It is a great city. but the most expensive with a shitty job Situation and low salaries compared to other parts of Austria. I am not telling you to stay away. But you should know that
Just learn normal German – dialect words can come a bit later. But do try from the very beginning to listen as much as possible to Austrian accents vs German ones. I heard as little hochdeutsch as possible when starting off and it helped solidify the right pronunciation early.
My recommendation is, once you get through A1/A2ish, start listening to the ORF Journal News Podcast every day on the way to work or wherever, even if you don’t understand it. You want to start absorbing the melody and sound every day.
