Neat. Looks like they elected fascism instead and Republicans have kicked their election plans into full gear. So it’s moot what they want now.
Democrats who sat out the last election need a foot up their backside.
That’s a very short-sighted reason to sit out a election. „The candidate that’s supposed to best represent me isn’t exactly what I want so I’ll not vote at all. Sure, I know the likelihood of the candidate who actively hates me winning is high, but that’s my right.“
How many of those voters have ever attended a caucus or primary? Or contacted their legislators? Or been involved in organizing or attending protests, rallies and get-out-the vote events? Or volunteered for candidates they DO like?
Non-traditional candidates don’t just randomly appear with a fully formed campaign and endorsements. If you want to see more progressive candidates, go find them and help them get elected.

I know we’re all mad at those idiots, but it’s also worth taking the feedback. And also to remember that people don’t really vote on policy specifics.
The huge difference between AOC/Bernie and other Dems is that they obviously *have beliefs* that they stick by, and can articulate well. They may have to compromise in the name of politics, but they still believe in the thing and will keep working for it where they can.
The Dems’ biggest problem is that so many of them *don’t*. Voters can smell that stink on them, and it fosters low trust. Which in turn depresses turnout.

There is a disconnect here on both sides that I think would be beneficial to hash out.
On the voter side: it’s understandable that someone needs to earn your vote but by consistently staying home you are actively making it so a politician will not listen to you. Look at the NYC mayor election most candidates were outreaching to voters who voted in the last 3 primaries because resources are limited. Mamdani was able to have such a great volunteer operation that he could outreach to first time voters but that is not the norm. If you want candidates that are more to the left it means you have to vote every election so candidates actually outreach to earn your vote. You need to make your vote valuable enough to commit to getting.
On the Dem politician side: you are missing out on a voting goldmine by ignoring the progressive base and instead trying to court Republican votes. If your issue is resource management what takes less effort actively converting someone who hates you on principle AND convincing them to go out and vote for you. Our convincing someone who might be on your side to get up and pick you versus the worst person ever. I would remind Democrats that literally the only presidential election since the modern neoliberal mindset took over the party that the Dems actually won without the aid of a 3rd party was when the young black guy got young people energized to vote for progressive policies like healthcare reform and being anti war.

Mamdani mobilized the „nonvoting“ 25–34 bloc which the DNC has given millions of dollars to McKinsey to figure out how to reach. The response by establishment Dems was to… refuse to endorse him.
If you voted for Obama in ’08, with the motto „change we can believe in,“ Hillary Clinton was **what you were voting against**. How anyone found it surprising that „you get her anyway, fuck you“ wasn’t a winning message is astonishing.
Then in 2024 to deliberately lie to the public about Biden’s mental acuity, so they could skip a primary & run someone who’s never won more than 10% in any national primary… then got shocked she lost…

And people are probably tired of Pelosi’s and Schumer’s who are in power and old, have so much control over the party, and use it to keep themselves in power.
We need a good old clean slate in the party. Get rid of the old Dems that are just in it to keep themselves rich.
