Do what Tucker Carlson did: fuck the networks, start a podcast.
In the past, people needed to work with these giant corporations because that was the only way to broadcast a message. Those were the only platforms we had.
Now, just make a website, record a podcast, and upload it on social media. Cut all the middlemen out. Audiences get to interact directly with creators and journalists. No contracts, no obligations, complete creative control.
I look forward to the Colbert Report 2.0.

I rather think of it more as an outcome after years of „Dark Warning“.

Of many many dark warnings. Honestly I’d say we’re beyond the warnings. That was happening last election. The is the stuff that everyone, including trump, was saying Trump was going to do.

Canceled right after paying a large sum to Lord Dampnut because his feelings were hurt by the Harris interview. An interview he turned down to do.
Now I’m sure they wasn’t any backroom deal that went on as well. Right? /s

I don’t think they thought this through fully. Do they think Colbert will be less scathing without having to follow public tv censorship? He was already wildly successful in a less censored format.
Not to mention the whole Streisand effect of the cancelation.

I don’t really like this incarnation of Colbert. I preferred the comedy central version but it’s completely horrifying that he’s getting fired for criticizing Paramount’s bribe to Trump.
ownthelib on
I don’t think that’s true, we already know the administration is doing this, like this itself is no dark warning, it’s par for the course.
I actually think there are more positives than negatives here. I think these large concentrations of speech and them cutting programming people watch due to Trump is bad business. Colbert isn’t going to stop, this is his life’s work. He’s just going to do it independently and these dipshit executives who run these networks are cutting off their arms to keep blood flowing to the head.
I mean, I’m not well versed in the finances of network television but them letting Trump
bend them over backwards just to let a “merger” happen seems like bad business.
If anything it will let Colbert be untethered and independent. I miss the Colbert Report days and I hope he returns to form

Even if Trump dropped dead of a heart attack tomorrow (god willing), I think the damage to the US is done. Authoritarianism has been normalized in the Republican Party and is slowly being institutionalized by Republicans. The Democrats have allowed this to happen by trying to continue with politics as usual. Short of a major peaceful uprising by the public, which doesn’t appear likely given Trump’s relatively high approval, the US is fucked for at least a generation.

There has been a list getting posted here of all the Republican politicians who have been charged for sex crimes involving a minor. In light of what happened Colbert should start reading that list on his show at least twice a week until next May.

Now that he’s out from under his CBS contract, we should ensure Colbert has a wildly successful political career, and send a message of our own.

Sure way to get that show cancelled too by Paramount.

The biggest TIL to come out of this is learning that the Fox News “late night” show that airs an hour earlier pulls down a million more viewers on average. It truly is only boomers watching television these days.

I love Stephen, his politics cost him his job, not the ratings. Stephen is what I call „A True American Patriot“ educating the public in an entertaining way nightly about the incompetence, lies and disgust in our current administration. The First Amendment is no longer valid in our country, unless our mindless king mumbles his total garbage daily without any repercussions.
Stephen will have no problem moving forward next year, and this time without the wall of CBS restricting him.
So, who’s next?

Disney needs to buy the rights to this. Then they’d get a bunch of adults that don’t even have children or any interest in their subscription to subscribe.
But seriously, he could do it himself or on YouTube and charge a fee and he would make money.
