It was the same group that targeted other retailers including M&S, maybe now companies will allocate
reasonable budget to their Cyber teams.
I doubt it though, it’s a cost until your business grinds to a halt.

Should really be fined substantially under GDPR and that money distributed to affected customers. Maybe they’d take protecting personal data more seriously then in future.
That should hopefully result in a big fine. 4% of the global annual turnover of £11.3billion = 452million.

They should of contacted people earlier and paid for the credit monitoring/protective cifas registration.
So they force us to sign up for these cards to get normal prices, then let our personal details get stolen

Never had my card details stolen, both me and a friend have had our accounts emptied through card details stored on the co-op app. Is a fucking disgrace.

I would have ensured I released this information yesterday as nearest midday as possible.
Yes everyone should take data security and following the set rules more seriously. It really comes down to individual members of staff not giving in to social engineering pressure and breaking rules.

The Co-op is said to have done a bit better than M&S in its IT response. The press report that the Co-op response was quicker in pulling the plug to block the hackers – although it turns out they got the membership information. Pulling the plug quickly caused big problems in running the stores for a time but they focused (then) on blocking the hackers. *I quickly contacted the press team at the Co-op for comment, and within minutes the firm, who had initially downplayed the hack, admitted to employees, customers and the stock market about the significant data breach.*
Didn’t they just steal the fake data you gave them? Why would I give my birthdate to a supermarket? That’s absurd.
