It’s less the actual definition that might be applied than the interpretation of the definition. If even a little ambiguous, there’ll be attempts to stretch the definition to use it as a blasphemy law.

Public criticism and rejection of any religion should be 100% guaranteed by the law. There is zero reason for any religion to get special treatment over any other. I should be free to make fun of, ridicule, criticise, object to, laugh at and generally say what I want about any religion. Is it respectful, no, but so what? Is it kind, no but so what? Is it harmful, definitely not and we are sliding into a dark place here. The road to hell is paved with good intentions, and this particular religion just takes, and shouts, takes, and shouts…
I wonder if they’ll do the same for Christians, Hindus, Sikhs, Buddhists, Zoroastrians, Pagans, Wiccans, Jedi, Athiests, Scientologists, and any other groups who have beliefs or lack thereof?

We could ask what is so special about Islam, that we as a society should have an Islamophobia law imposed on us.
Nobody is asking for a Sihkphobia law, a Hinduphobia law, a Bhuddaphobia law, Zoroastrianophonia law.
Even at the peak of free movement, when there were nearly 1 million Polish nationals in the UK, the Polish community nor lawmakers or law enforcement ever raised the issue of “ Polophobia „.
But the question isn’t what is “ special “ about Islam and its adherents.
It’s more, what is “ unique“ about Islam and its adherents.
Everyone knows how this would turn out. It’s like having a card game and giving only only one player a special platinum plated trump card.

We should be free to criticise Islam without being accused of racial hatred.
Do you believe in women’s rights? LGBT rights ? Are against anti semitism ? Then there is a good chance you have a phobia of Islam frankly .
Why doesn’t labour just change their name at this point to the British Islamic Party

I didn’t realise the Daily Mail was suddenly taken seriously on this sub. So in order to find out more about this, I had to read the article, so for making me dirty my hands I hope OP wakes up this morning with a hive of bees in his underwear.
This article does seem to be a lot of innuendo.
Here’s the key passage:
