They surprised a burglar in their home, and both got shot „multiple times“, including in the head. Allegedly by a 22 year old thief.

It sounds tragically simple enough, but somehow too complicated at the same time. Why bring a gun when you’re robbing a supposedly unoccupied house. Why shoot old people and risk a murder charge. Why not just overpower them and run. And if you’re (I’m guessing) somewhat wealthy in California, why leave a door unlocked.

I’m overthinking it, I know, but it’s all just too awful to be understood.
