The heating of your apartment likely comes from radiators, which are not controlled by the electric circuit breaker. Check with your maintenance company about possible floor heating. It’s usually only in the bathroom, and the rest of the apartment is usually heated by radiators below the windows.

Some things that you can do to make your apartment cooler:

* Make sure that the knob on each radiator is turned to the off position. Whether or not heat is sent to the radiators is usually controlled at the building level. There should not be heat going to them at this time of year, but it doesn’t hurt to turn them off.
* Keep the bathroom door closed so that heat from the bathroom does not warm up the rest of the apartment.
* Close all of the blinds, shades, or curtains. Sunlight heats up the apartment a lot.
* If your windows have fresh air intake vents, make sure that they are in summer mode. In winter mode, the air circulates between the panes of the windows before coming into the room so that the sun can warm it. In the summer, you don’t want or need this extra warming.
* Turn off any unnecessary electronics or any other appliances that produce heat. You can check if any of your devices feel warm to the touch and turn off ones that you don’t need to use right now. If you have any lights that are not LEDs, turn those off, too.
* Open windows and the balcony door at night to let in cooler air. Close them before it starts getting hotter outside so that you have cooler air inside and hotter air outside.
