    1. Three of my good friends are jobless at the moment and been jobless for more than a year. One is native, two are foreigners with good command of Finnish. All had from 7 to 10 years of experience in the engineering, IT and business fields. Job market is crazy at the moment.

    2. You know time’s are tough when even those with advanced degree’s struggle gaining employment whatsoever, it really does feel like the social contract of working hard and obtaining a degree with a good chance to gain meaningful employment has completely diminished (hopefully temporarily). As someone approaching 30 when I first went to university the common wisdom then was as long as you study a degree leading to a defined role or something such as STEM then you were almost guaranteed good employment. Before that I think that getting any type of degree was enough for good employment and before that just walking in and asking for a job seemed like it was enough. Although maybe getting a job back then wasn’t as easy as some people say and most of what I said is anecdotal what do people do now to gain employment? sure there are trades and vocations (e.g nursing) but gaining a white collar job seems almost impossible right now.

    3. I can’t imagine to think in another 5-10 years. What is the solution here? They mention there just aren’t enough jobs available and Finland is not really promoting people opening business with so many risks and high taxes.

Is the end goal that half the population just lives on UBI?

I’m about to quit my shit job and go back to school. Then I’ll probably join ya’ll.

    5. I expect brain drain to increase. I’ve also been looking for jobs abroad, despite having one in Finland. I’m a lawyer.

Tbh I don’t trust that there wouldn’t be another round of firing people to save money at my workplace. Previous one didn’t affect me, but who knows how the next one would turn out. There are more and more savings being made.

I mean this wouldn’t be that bad if for the fact that no matter what statistics people present the majority of people will still just scream at you to „just get a job“ and treat you like 2nd class citizen just because you can’t land a job despite trying.

My friend has lowered down her expectations from a sales job to a restaurant job. She has 2 years of experience in the restaurant industry (in Finland) and 2 years of experience in technical sales (abroad).

She thought not knowing Finnish was the problem, now she learned Finnish in 1.5 years and achieved a good grip, but still she is getting rejected in even all the restaurants. She got called from TE office and the lady said your Finnish is quite good, how come you don’t get a job? Like she doesn’t know the market atm.

She is frustrated as anything, I dont even know what to suggest.

I wonder if there’s ever been a time with the same level of  unemployment in Finland? And if there has, what was done to fix it?
