I wonder what the knuckle draggers will do to spin this into a “not good enough” thing…

Inbred far right nutters will be using this somehow with their pages stuffed with „we need to do better“. There has been a great body of work done with Frontex to stop people trafficking (European border force) from Europe and checks in the North to Ireland. They used to a few ten years ago but have increased it now.

Will the “Concerned Citizens” be claiming that we’re being overrun/invaded again?

This is encouraging news.
I think policy definitely matters when it comes to asylum seekers. The more generous a country is perceived to be, the more people take advantage of it, or at least think they can take advantage of it.
Hopefully, the numbers will continue to reduce.

Mostly positive news, seems like the fast tracked applications and deportations are having an effect.
>As of last Monday, there were 33,822 pending IPAS applications at various points of the process. About 72 per cent of all international protection applicants appeal their first instance refusal decision.
>The IPAS tribunal system, which considers appeals, has the capacity to consider 4,750 such appeals this year. But this is far below the 17,000 appeals that the [Department of Justice](https://www.irishtimes.com/tags/department-of-justice/) expects to receive in 2025. The number of appeals completed in the first six months of this year stands at 2,455.
But there’s still a bit of a clog here. They are trying to recruit more staff to help, but presumably they all require significant qualifications, and you can’t conjure trained legal staff out of thin air.
Other countries seem to have more restrictions on lodging appeals, and have lower appeal percentages as a result. Access to legal aid is often limited as well. That seems like the next logical step.
The far-right will be holding protests demanding we increase IP numbers so they can protest against them again hahaha
Jokes aside this is very encouraging news. What we need is for deportation orders for failed asylum seekers to be enforced and better integration services.
