Trump’s budget proposes cuts to National Park Service recreation and preservation programs, natural resource programs, and cultural programs, as well as cutting both seasonal positions and more than 5,500 full-time roles.“

„In April, Trump’s Secretary of the Interior, Doug Burgum, the ultra-wealthy former governor of North Dakota, handed over significant control of the Department to Tyler Hassen, who initially came to the Department of the Interior as a DOGE operative. In a secretarial order, Burgum authorized Hassen to make policy decisions, transfer funds, and make staffing changes.“

„Hassen has no government experience. He spent two decades as an executive at an oil rig company, where he made nearly $4 million annually. According to the AP, Burgum changed Hassen’s title from “assistant secretary” to “principal deputy assistant secretary,” a loophole that allows him to skirt rules banning conflicts of interest and requiring Senate confirmation. Kathleen Clark, a government ethics expert at Washington University in St. Louis, told the AP this amounts to fraud.“

„Burgum testified before the Senate Appropriations subcommittee in May that the park service had “about 26,500 people.” Yet a *Washington Post* review of internal Interior data found there [were actually](https://www.washingtonpost.com/climate-environment/2025/06/02/national-park-service-crater-lake/) 18,066 full-time and seasonal employees. And while there were just 448 people working in IT and HR positions across the entire Park Service, Burgum further claimed: “We got several thousand people working in IT, and I don’t know what they do.”“

After slashing the budget and workforce, they predicted, “the administration will claim the private sector can better run (read ‘exploit’) the parks that the administration purposely set up to fail.” Their op-ed paints a grim picture of national parks marred with resorts, “ticketed bison petting zoos,” zip lines, and golf courses.“*

The US is fine losing its national parks, as long as black ppl get sent to El Salvador.

Sigh… two of the best benefits of being a Veteran used to be the VA before Republicans destroyed it, and free lifetime visits to National Parks for you and your family.

Nothing is sacred to these assholes. Privatize everything to remake it in their image: gaudy, tacky, cringe-inducing and gross. Burning down the country and stripping the copper out of the walls on their way out.

But it’s to give rich people tax breaks!

A lot of people also love the government paychecks and assistance they get (even if they lie to themselves about it), and trump is destroying all that too.

The US people love the National Parks, they do not love paying for the National Parks.

My late mother was a park ranger. This would have broken her heart.

There’s gonna be a lot of things we love that we didn’t realize the govt provided and provided well, but by then we’ll be living in SpaceXXY, Amazononia and Palantirtown and it will be too late, won’t it?

Since Trump plans to sell off the National Parks – it is no wonder he sees no reason to keep the National Park Service.

On a related note note the Lodge on the north rim has burned down, as I’ve just learned.

There’s some fed land near me. They slashed public hours by 66% this year because of Trump. They still spend money to maintain the land, they just refuse to have personnel available to open the gate and let the public enjoy their investment.

The NPS service has something planned. I wouldn’t have guessed they were the rebels of the government. Love them and I love the parks.

LMAO. The public also loves a better healthcare system. Does Washington give a fuck?

Well, yeah, because a. He can get something out of it and by trying to sell off land in the national parks he can line his own pockets and B. He thinks it’s something that only liberals and environmentalist like so he wants to destroy it to hurt his enemies.

Republicans will say they „support“ something, but never in a million years would they change their vote for it. 

All they’re really saying is „I don’t want to feel like I’m a bad person, so I support that obviously good thing, but I’d never actually prioritize it over my tax cuts and fear of trans people or immigrants.“

I bet he’s never been in one.
