Ging mit meiner Mutter ins Kino und war verwirrt, als wir im Theater standen, um festzustellen, dass wir die einzigen Leute dort waren. Als wir Tickets kauften, zeigte es, dass die Hälfte des Theaters genommen wurde. Ich glaube, sie tun dies, damit die Leute Tickets online kaufen, weil sie ausverkauft sind, wenn sie sie persönlich kaufen. Sie berechnen außerdem über 2 USD pro Ticket, das online als „Bearbeitungsgebühr“ gekauft wurde. Der Film beginnt um 7:05 Uhr. Hier ist das Bild, das ich um 19:00 Uhr mit meiner Mutter aufgenommen habe:

This would surprise no one.
I suspect that some smaller studios will do fund raising in a way that you buy one ticket and gift one. Sometimes those gifted tickets end up like this and the smaller studio gets to claim $$XXM box office receipts on opening weekend.
Someone said that people book seats so they can bypass paying for parking in certain malls. so it looks like they saw the film. That’s obv for people with a membership.
Some kind of tax fraud, most theatres are owned by China
There has been so much fraud around AMC since the meme stock craze of 2020. I wouldn’t be surprised if they’re doing this to fudge numbers for investors or something. Their CEO sits on some international board for like USAID or some other propaganda arm of unelected officials for the government. I would trust nothing associated with this company.
I noticed this exact thing recently. It was weird. They had some seats greyed out like they were sold, but the actual sold seats were red and said “sold out” when you tapped them.
This happened this past weekend to us and they said they couldn’t sell more tickets because the AC was partially out so they could only fill a limited number of seats. I much prefer Harkins over AMC anyway. Any AMC I have walked into in the last 5 years has been filthy.
yup, pretty common actualy. and pretty common to see empty theaters over the last 4 years or since covid i would say. Ticketmaster is still one of the biggest resources for getting movie tickets for some reason. Being in burbank or LA on a saturday night means they tend to buy blocks of tickets they think will sell well.
What remains is what amc sees. ticket master wiil likely try to get all the „premium desired“ seats.
With the movie selection, i cant imagen everyone wanting to see a tough subject on a saturday night during this political envoirment. but at the same time i can see the limited viewing and the fact that it was an „indi festival film“ i could also see how it could attract alot of people to come and see.
So ticket master will roll the dice on the entire theater, understanding that some movies might not do so well… and then your left with this….
im sure you had some in the theater, but like you said, no where near expected.
Ticketmaster has to buy the tickets to secure them. so they are stuck regardless if the ticket sells or not. Hence why they cost like 10$ more from them…..
its the corpo’s, buying tickets with fake money to keep the industry afloat.
just please don’t notice too much or they will let it burn
lots of different type of companies do this kind of thing to try to induce fomo to get people to book stuff without hesitation.. airlines and hotel booking websites come to mind.. there will usually be something flashing on the screen.. „2 seats left“ or „1 room left for the selected dates“.. online shopping.. „only 5 left!“ It is always set to show this regardless of the actual vacancy status.
Definitely seems like a super easy way to launder money
Every movie in theater has at least 10 minutes of ads and movie trailers. I am always late to avoid that.
