The lessons here seem a little hamstrung. For instance ‘avoid relying on the US for security’.
The European Allies didn’t listen to US concerns about Versailles and the general harshness of terms on Germany – which led to the conditions in which Hitler seized power.
There was heavy US involvement in the post-ww2 peace and security process and a much more successful result.
Obviously, US involvement doesn’t guarantee a peace process will be successful by any means, but this isn’t a good example to make the counterpoint.
