Maybe the cunts at Yorkshire water should use our money to fix all the leaks rather than paying out bonuses and dividends, then we wouldn’t need a hosepipe ban
A reminder that prosecutions for breaching a hosepipe ban are exceedingly rare to the point they essentially never happen.
Given water companies and their blatant disregard for their customers, the infrastructure and the environment, I wouldn’t place much importance on their supposed ‘ban’.
I’ve got an allotment in Leeds and this year had been pretty rough in terms of watering, I think I can count on one hand the days of decent rain we’ve had since April. Was on the canal yesterday and it’s about at the lowest I’ve seen it. Genuinely would love a week of solid rainfall please.
Reminder that no one has ever been fined for breaching a hosepipe ban.
If only they had collected more of the rain we had over winter.
I think it had to happen soon because of the lack of rain and very hot weather. I think we need to build more reservoirs.
baffles me that we live in one of the wettest countries, We are an island where the furthest distance from the sea you can be at any one time is 70 miles..
Yet we have water shortages..
All through the hot weather, our local res’s were full.. then suddenly once the hot weather ended. They dropped to less than half full. Almost as if they had been emptied (sold?) in preparation for the wet weather that came.. but that didn’t fill up as much as expected.
Maybe invest some of those profits in the infrastructure instead of lining their own pockets. Our water industry is a shambles.

Said this elsewhere. There’s a ban on using a hosepipe to fill a pool but they said you can use a bucket for the same task.
Still the same volume of water, just an extra bit of grunt work involved.
Maybe if they had spent less on bonus payments and more on infrastructure investment it would not be needed.
They haven’t built a single new reservoir since privatisation. It’s disgusting behaviour
Edit it has been brought to my attention that it’s more regulation than the water company stopping the building of reservoirs.
The rest of the infrastructure however is another matter.
Its been raining on the Yorkshire coast fairly regularly since January….. Yorkshire is big…. also they keep on flush out waste when it rains into the sea….
Who even uses hosepipes? I can’t remember the last time I saw somebody out with one.
Yorkshire Water is losing over 3000 litres of water, per second, due to unfixed leaks.
But its washing your car thats the problem.
Yorkshire population has grown 5% since mid 2000s. Yorkshire Water has put in zero investment. No new reservoirs, no preemptive work to fix old pipes. Yet they want to charge you a huge sum of money because the boss at the top needs well over £1mil a year salary. Yet the person who is running the entire country is on a fraction of that.
I cant see how YW is doing this. Im seeing rivers fast flowing mainly in North Yorkshire, but its still a lot of water. Guessing its all just going out to sea insead of collecting it.
So the way I see it we’ve got three major problems that are causing dry spells.
* The NIMBYS preventing us from building new reservoirs and poor government planning in even building new infrastructure.
* The water companies lack of maintenance as they’d much rather line their own pockets.
* Climate change!
Safe to say unless something is done we’re pretty much fucked and this will only get worse in the years to come.
Those of us 40 and over will be thinking “happens every year” as it seems to have happened yearly to YW since 1995 – they ended up driving tankers to just keep any water in the reservoirs that year…
Does anyone here live near a reservoir? Just curious what it’s like?
I see the argument it’s nimby people not wanting one built near but is it truly a horrific thing to live near?
Hose pipe bans for houses, but no controls for companies, using far, far more water on a daily basis?

The thing that bothers me about this, is just how many people will ignore it. It’s time to put everybody on metered water
I don’t live in Yorkshire. But if a hosepipe ban is announced for my local area, given that my water bill has increased by over £300 with no correlation to increased water usage, safe to say I’ll be using my water any way I fucking want, hosepipe or not.
Sorry I’ve got veg and fruit to grow, not gonna let it dry out because they have a million leaky pipes

It’s wild that leaks and corporate payouts keep draining resources while regular folks get hit with bans. And yeah, good luck enforcing those fines, seems like an empty threat most of the time.
Couldn’t be anything to do with how many water mains have burst recently around here, wasting untold amounts of water…
I want every water company to list on the water bills how much water was lost via leaks and how much that added to the bill.
