    1. > “Yeah, it’s harder. That’s known,” Theron said when asked about gender disparity in the action genre. “Action films with female leads don’t get greenlit as much as the ones with male leads. I think the thing that always frustrates me is the fact that guys will get a free ride.”

      > “When women do this and the movie maybe doesn’t hit fully, they don’t necessarily get a chance again,” she continued. “With this, we were very aware that eyes were on us. It’s not a risk that studios want to take, but they’ll take it many times on the same guy who might have a string of action movies that did not do so well.”

Very similar in politics. Women are regularly suppressed by mediocre men.

The timing for this seems a bit off given yesterday’s post about Scarlett Johansson.

Also, except Brad Pitt and Tom Cruise is there any male action star who isnt flopping right now?

There’s a simple solution… identify as a man. It’s 2025 you can be whatever you want.

    5. Super model turned dramatic actor turned action actor is upset that action roles try up after age 50.

Nah, I’m not buying it. There are plenty of men who get their one big shot on a movie and when it fails to make a splash they never get a second chance.

      But if you make a semi-successful movie….

This feels more like a Hollywood has a budget problem than Hollywood has a woman problem.

They want Female action stars, so they throw money at projects with them, when those projects with similar story and action beats would have done just fine on a more modest budget.

Example… Ballerina, a fifth in a franchise with a new lead… spin-off sidequel at best, but had a higher budget than John wick Chapter 1-3 (1 and 2 combined, 3 it was 15 mil more)

If they’d budgeted this for what it was… a cash grab spin off, it would have done fine, as it was budgeted it was a loser.

Even the Auteur stuff like Furiosa is way over budgeted for what it is.

Then you have stuff like Old Guard 2… which Charlize Theron is exactly as good as Charlize Theron is in movies. She acts well, she moves well, the action parts are fun and entertaining, but the entire story, act structure and things that make it a movie are barely there. Honestly OG2 was so cynical and bleh that I hope that an OG3 is never made because that type of behavior from creatives needs to be punished.

So yeah.. Hollywood needs to figure out that the audience for some films is exactly as big as it is, and budget those films appropriately. I love me some female lead action films, I always have, but I understand that the appetite for those is a lot smaller than the volume Hollywood is currently producing.

The great irony is I have a Wife and a Daughter… neither will watch female lead action movies because they don’t like them. They will watch occasional other action movies, but it’s just not their genre. I don’t know what audience they are making these for.

First of all, is Hollywood a thing anymore? Secondly, every movie has a female lead in it for the last 5 years

    9. Right now they just aren’t producing enough quality action movies with female leads. No one gives a shit that Ripley is a woman because Alien is badass. I think audiences are willing to take the chance on a female lead if the story and script are up to par – Hollywood just needs to give them the fair chance on the front end (and not a spin off from a male dominated series).

    10. She is currently in a movie with Uma Thurman and ex model who has been working constantly for years regardless of the fact that she not a very good actor.

      Anya last year with furrosia

      Florence leading thunderbolts

      Zendaya is in fkin everything

And scarlett is literally leading jurasic park rn.

Even in oscars this decade 4/5 BP winners had women as lead.

Guys get a free ride… Looks at the entire acting and modelling industry that exclusively only hires women, pays them more, so much so that they’ve advocated for non norms to the industry. So you don’t even have to look good to be a model anymore. Sorry women, you’re all about to have your Israel moment. Where you get to find out majority of your modern problems are also the choices you make. Accountability and all that. Is anything ever womens own fault? Like actual toddler logic at this point.
