She’s not wrong. Hollywood is sexist and misogynistic, of this we’ve known for generations.
The powers that be also pander to the worst of us. They won’t market a movie with a female lead in the same way that they’d enable a male led movie to find success out of fear of losing one audience for another.
It’s stupid. If your movie is good, people will watch it. But if your movie is good and no one knows it exists, then… it’s just a self-fulfilling prophecy.
All of this said. Gurl, that second Old Guard movie was an absolute dumpster fire.
More movies like Atomic Blonde please.
Who goes to action movies? Primarily dudes. It’s harder for a guy to accept a female badass than a male badass.
If making movies is a business – and it is – their business model needs to make sense.
Remember the Marvels? Yeah – it flopped. i liked it but look at what America is… If you want your business model to succeed, you can’t keep throwing money at things that don’t make your money back. it just is what it is in the greatest general sense: people suck

That’s just bullshit considering there were barely any women at my Ballerina screening. This is the same argument as the WNBA. Women simply aren’t supporting their fellow women. They’ll show up to Barbie cos TikTok told them to but other female led films? Crickets. Funnily enough it seems like only old black women are showing up to support women seeing as The Woman King managed to make its money back.
Not sure what she’s getting at. Women are inherently less physical than men, that’s just a fact. That new Ana de Armas Ballerina flick looks awesome but am I gonna have to suspend my disbelief a bit more when I watch her take out a room full of 25 rough, 200-pound dudes moreso than Keanu? Absolutely. Anyone denying that is simply being dishonest here.
Men don’t typically lead romcoms either. And action movies are more exciting to watch from a box-office standpoint. Thats just how the chips fall.
The Star Wars sequels, Aliens and Aliens, The Hunger Games all did super well.

On the whole more men like action movies. More men associate with a male lead. Not rocket science.
