      The NWS sent a life threatening flash flood alert 3 hours before it happened. But The alert was at 1 AM (flooding at around 4 AM) and Texas officials did not act on the warning.

      Just like with Uvalde no Texas state official will be fired, and Texans will likely still vote for the same leaders who put those officials into their jobs in the first place.

      The complaints from Texas state officials about federal oversight are perfect examples of r/LeopardsAteMyFace. They wanted to be tough and independent, so they can handle the sewer backup themselves. Absolute hypocrites and cowards all around.

      One family lost two daughters who were at the camp. I can’t imagine what that would be like.

      If you’re a conspiracy theorist looking for answers, try researching “flash floods”. Follow that up with looking into how many times texas has let down or flat out abandoned its citizens during any kind of disaster, natural or man made, and then you can tell me all about your conspiracies.

      It made me sick (but not surprised) when I saw all the maga morons talking about how this was some democrat weather manipulation event. These people are fucking sick in the head. I honestly don’t even know how we’re going to make it as a society with these idiots living amongst us.

      Seeing photos of the camp bunks and the scattered things they left behind – stuffed animals, Stanley cups, their favorite blankets…it breaks my heart. An unimaginable loss.

      This reminds me of when the Miami condo collapsed. Everyone thought it was just a few people at first then it landed above 100 dead. Sad in both instances

      This is playing out exactly like the Wimberley flood on the Blanco River 10 yrs ago. Some of those victims were never found.

      This is probably a good time to check your own local warning system. I get emergency alerts from the province (and separate ones from the university) and they test the system twice a year. If you haven’t been getting alerts then check your phone settings (apparently you can turn them off which seems like it should not be an option), and your county/state to see how often they test their system and what their protocol is. Obviously if you live in a fire/flood/tornado/tsunami/disaster prone area then learn how to stay safe for those circumstances. If you are not confident in your local government’s emergency preparedness, then let them know!!!

      Going to a youth camping spot in the Texas Hill Country is practically a right of passage in Central Texas. YMCA, church youth groups, scouting troops, and youth summer camps regularly make use of camps all over this river valley, and have for decades.

      IMO, it was always a matter of when, and not if, something like this would happen.

      Idk when Texans are going to get the message that their local state government doesn’t care about them, but if between Uvalde and this shit it’s not sinking in idk what’s going to get them to that realization.

      You guys remember that landslide in Blatten, Switzerland? I know they had more time to prepare, but still, they managed to relocate the ENTIRE TOWN’S worth of people and they all survived. They planned and were prepared and all complied.
