    1. Why is she even there or speaking on the matter? What does immigration have to do with disaster prevention and relief??

    2. More accurately, she *tried* to dodge blame. It sounds like she failed and took the blamecream pie straight to the face in Three Stooges stytle.

    3. Maybe defunding the NOAA before new technology was in place wasn’t the best idea?

    4. I totally understand why she wasn’t allowed on one rez, when she was governor of South Dakota.

Kerr County is running by Republicans.

      Texas is running by Republicans.

The USA is run by Republicans.

And somehow they will accept zero responsibility.

    6. They sent up one (1) weather balloon on Thursday. They use 4 for a hurricane. Just 1 more weather balloon late Thursday would have likely made all the difference in the world.

If the democrats aren’t out there, en mass, screaming from the top of their lungs that the national weather service is criminally understaffed after DOGE wrecked it and FEMA is broke after Trump stole money from it to put in his pet project of deporting a bunch of people who have lived here legally for 30 plus years, then they are missing a huge opportunity.

People are going to continue to die because our MAGA government has stripped so much of the infrastructure that was there to warn them about things just like this.

    8. I wish people would stop calling her Barbie. She is hideous inside and out

    9. I wish we’d stop calling these women Barbie. Barbie is pretty. They absolutely take this stuff as a compliment to their appearance.

Everyone’s throwing fingers without details, so let’s get specific.

As of June 2025, the Defense Meteorological Satellite Program has been effectively shuttered. This program specifically monitored overnight rapid mesoscale convection events like the storm that created this flood. Without the data from this satellite group, NOAA is severely limited in its ability to detect overnight convection and storm intensification.

Why was it shuttered? the Trump DoD didn’t want to keep paying for a satellite array used more for civilian purposes than national defense. Thanks guys!

So, when the forecasted 7″ almost doubled in the overnight hours due to rapid nocturnal convection, the satellites that should have flagged this event were instead beaming their data into the void.

Add to this, there’s been a 10% reduction in workforce for the region’s NOAA office in 6 months. That leaves it 22% understaffed. Even with their „All Hands“ team of 5 scientists watching the region, they couldn’t manually detect the storm intensification, because their nocturnal mesoscale radars ***don’t do anything anymore***.

This is what defunding science looks like – a slow trickle of inefficiencies that builds into a flood. Metaphorical and literal. When Conservatives try to tell you „the budget cuts don’t take effect until October! This wasn’t Trump’s fault!“ …simply remind them of DMSP.

The US Geological Survey, which monitors river gauges, was also slashed by DOGE. Starting this month the defense department will no longer provide satellite weather data, leaving hurricane forecasters without crucial information about storms as peak hurricane season looms in the Atlantic. (Allegedly for cybersecurity reasons?)

    12. If I learned anything from the California fires, it’s that the buck stops with the governor. Flood zones are way more predictable than fire zones, so Abbott should have seen this coming

    13. 30 little girls are dead because of Trump policies and local Texas officials failing again. This story needs to be what this administration answers for until they’re voted out or impeached.

    14. Disaster area is where the national guards are needed to help search for survivors instead of ICE detention centers.

    15. Then stop letting her. Grow a pair, instead of leaving it up to us on social media.

    16. Worst flood plain in the state , with a summer camp for 700 kids? And no warning system in place?

Sounds to me like they’ve just got a governor that’s more concerned about drag shows and Target bathrooms.

Trump’s cuts to NWS and NOAA seriously impacted this disaster in a very negative way. Lives could have been saved. But cutting hundreds of key positions at these organizations in favor of tax cuts for the top .001% are to blame for the majority of these deaths. This is a pathetic administration. End of story.

What cosplay outfit did she have on for her visit? A full search and rescue outfit… but with a halter top?

Blames her dog for getting shot in the gravel pit. If only it had followed directions…

Governor Abbott seems to be handling the Texas flooding situation better than ICE Barbie. He’s actually asking for help and support for the affected communities.

    21. mangoserpent on

It will certainly be a disaster for ICE Barbie if her face melts off because of climate change and reveals Nosfaratu.

    22. themightytouch on

Imagine the Democrats being competent and using the Texas flooding tragedy to their advantage like republicans would. Nonstop showing the faces of the children who perished and blaming the GOP would go places.
