    1. States still loyal to the rule of law and that believe in an economy that isn’t rigged should absolutely take tough measures like this to withhold tax payments until this criminal Administration buckles. Nevada needs to join the movement of States willing to exercise the leverage they have to take the country back.

Considering most conservative states live on welfare from blue states and cities that is a good idea and would be very effective.

Yeah they could send the military but that would just grind everything to a halt and accomplish the same goal.

It would be extremely complicated to actually make this work.

States should pass restrictive laws around requiring federal agents being monitored by and in contact with local law enforcement, with strict laws prosecuting overreach and ideally requirements for local detainment until a state panels has cleared removal from within state boundaries.

Trump would take this sort of action into a declaration of war and send Marines to take over the state governments that try this.

As they should. No taxation without representation is a founding principle of the United States of America, and if the federal government won’t represent the states wishes, they shouldn’t pay the federal government.

What’s the diffence between this and throwing tea in the harbor…/same thing…let’s get the party started…

So say the bill gets passed and accted on the fed does what , target the state pursor or appeal? If tax time comes and individauls don’t pay but contact irs for tax installments payback, seems it would bog the machine down?

    8. I’m willing to withhold my state and federal tax payments until someone wakes up too…

    9. Talk to me about this when it ACTUALLY happens. Not just when they’re considering it or thinking about it.

Cause, frankly, I have never trusted Democrats to do the right thing.

How would this work? Federal income taxes are paid by individuals and companies directly to the Federal Government. The states have nothing to do with it and have no ability whatsoever to intercept these payments. I keep hearing this idea floated but don’t understand how it could be implemented.

Good. Why should my tax money go to fund some shit-hole fly-over state full of people who hate me?

Easy, Trump sends in ICE to occupy government buildings in non compliant (blue) states. They’ll start making people disappear until compliance is reached.

Do it. Seriously, fucking do it. What’s Trump gonna do, send henchmen to break a governors legs? He’s the one that threw out the rule of fucking law. Let the red states figure out their own shit.

It would probably result in attempts at seizure of funds in federally regulated banks, which means the states need to first establish a parallel monetary and banking system to safeguard its residents funds. On top of immediate cessation of SS payments and Medicare funding. So mechanisms to divert funding to maintain these programs using the withheld payments need to be in place first.

So it could be made to work, but would be so much trouble to only be worthwhile as a final step in an independence declaration.

    15. If this administration threatens to withhold aid or to unleash the marines upon them, they should. Choke the administration under the weight of the expense of it all meanwhile Having a reserve of money to fund the programs threatened instead.

It’s a populist position that could be used to seduce the more persuadable, casual maga folks. Stop sending our state money to the swamp.

    17. Stop proposing and just fucking do it. So tired of all this saying things and posturing. We need action.

    18. Spare-Care-1123 on

Is it legal for states to withhold funding to the federal government?

    19. I mean states have to make up the shortfall, might as well use money that they earned in the state to fund their state programs. Pull themselves up by the boot straps and such

    20. RevolutionaryCard512 on

If he’s withholding our tax dollar funds, we should stop payment

    21. According-Mention334 on

It’s about time we blue states stop turning over our money to a bunch of red state freeloaders

    22. > More immediate practical obstacles, they explained, stem from the fact that there’s vastly more money flowing from the federal government to the states than the other way around.
