Absolutely, this is going to be a major issue moving forward. Hopefully, Trump gives Carney permission to prioritize Canadian interests on the matter. I see similar dynamics at play in my own workplace: staff will come up with strong ideas, but leadership won’t always get behind them. When Carney presents his plan, I just hope he can frame it in a way that highlights how it benefits Trump directly, otherwise the answer will simply be no.
Unless we go the government route, the market is not big enough to have a Canadian company do this, and the odds of us competing against Microsoft or Amazon are next to zero.
Amazon AWS reports to service 2.4 million businesses, with Microsoft Azure supporting 350-480 thousand. Microsoft O365 services support over 3 million companies
Canada does better at niche areas. A Canadian based AI solution is definitely a possibility.
According to AI, for a canadian company to truly compete it would need a consortium of major canadian telecommunication companies, or an extremely well funded government backed organization
