It’s worse than that. Tips are still subject to social security and Medicare taxes. So, no real benefit for most lower income tip earners because of the standard deduction. Basically, no change whatsoever.
No tax on tips is garbage policy and its embarrassing that any of our representatives would continue to support it.
I get downvoted EVERY time I say this, but the no-tax-on-tips is just a loop hole for rich people to hide income
Unlike the tax breaks for Musk and billionaires, this is only temporary. It only lasts for 2 years while the rich get theirs for ever.
Not to mention my 20% tip will become a 10% one since no taxes are paid against it.
The dems should write a real no tax on tips bill and see if the gop votes for it.

Billionaires are the smallest yet most represented and protected and the least taxed. I think it’s time for no representation without taxation.
Tips are income and should be taxed. It’s a terrible policy anyways.
Basically like 90% of people who make less than 6 figures just take the standard deduction. Waiters and servers are not itemizing their taxes so basically no one is gonna benefit from this. Some fancy consultants just got another easy $25,000 deduction though, they’ll just count some of their commissions as “tips” now
Just so you know tax on tips isn’t the problem, the sub minimum wage is. In most state your bartender or server is making $3 an hour or less. Give them normal minimum wage, with tips and you got an actual living wage. Maybe even a 401k or something? Tax on tips makes the world go round, sub minimum wage keeps people poor.
Ask yourself, what would you do for $3 an hour?
What is so special about servers that they get $25k of their income tax free?
It’s very curious how this came about soon after the ruling from the Supreme Court that bribes that are paid after a friendly ruling/act is given to the person paying the bribe is called a tip…
In the same spirit… it’s also interesting how our government data was stolen by DOGE and given to Palantir soon after the Supreme Court overturned our right to privacy via the Roe V Wade reversal…
But yea… it was for bartenders, women, and children or whatever politicians on both sides of the aisle are saying…

So why should I tip? I paid taxes on the money I tipped with. You get it for free.
But the point is going be moot as no one will afford to eat out
I think people need to realize the general population only cares about money. You can take everything away from them but if they see the slightest increase to their paycheck they are happy. That’s all what matters to most people. They don’t care about the other benefits they were receiving.

This wasn’t about helping workers this just lets the rich legitimize tax avoidance.
But I 100% guarantee you, the average person tries that stunt, they end up with a life sentence.
Former sever here who always declared my tips so I could prove income. I respect servers and understand provides for a lot of families. But I fail to see why this job should be exempt from paying tax. The tipping culture is already getting out of hand, and with prices rising, it’s damn near impossible to eat out.
The way I see it, if the same money I’m using to tip is taxed at 35%, then I’m taking 35% out of my standard tip. What used to be a $20 tip (20%) on a $100 dine-in bill is now going to be 35% less, or $13 on the same $100 bill.
I’m just waiting to see how this policy is going to be abused. Perhaps corporations will start paying their employees in tips to avoid paying other benefits.

And „no tax on overtime“ when jobs have moved away from paying overtime wherever possible is likewise also nonsense.
