I am sad to hear this but genuinely not surprised. He is the only person I think to ever come out from that facility in its entire existence. Like shit I agree we shouldn’t have criminals running around but there also has to be some recourse for people wrongly accused and caught up in the system. Also nobody should be tortured even if they committed the worst crimes. It’s enough just to isolate people from the general population and hope that in prison they can rehabilitate themselves even if they’re in there for life. This is ultimately in the best interests of all individuals and society. If they can just throw you into prison on trumped up charges like Abrega is facing then you don’t want torture conditions happening as this now will impact and traumatize innocent individuals that get caught up in the system. It could be me or you next and that is how we have to think when we are discussing these things and making these laws. It is very easy to get wrapped up in a tribalistic mindset and want to punish criminality. I understand that, but prison is supposed to be the punishment… not death.

Idk how these MAGA people are not working this out, but honestly they seem to be people who follow their base instincts without thinking too much about it. This post to them would be laughed at and seen as being soft on crime instead of it being about their rights. So I wonder how we change this narrative to get them to realize that we are all sitting frogs in a boiling pot currently.
