„BUT THERE MIGHT BE KETAMINE ON MARS I HAVE TO KNOW FOR SURE“
it was a marketing stunt. he’s saying for 20 years humanity will fly to mars „ in the next 5 years“.
These people will die on earth – its an elitist fantasy of the 1% escaping unwashed masses.
„A city on Mars“ by the weinersmiths explores this as well. Check out r/smbccomics for cool comics.

Mars is an excellent place to send robotic mining and manufacturing crews for things such as solar and satellites, beaten out only by the moon
As a place to send people I just don’t see it, I don’t think there is a more than 10 year window left where an astronaut is going to be a better choice for any task in space, we are just too maladjusted. Doubtless there will be some small experiments and points of national pride but I think 95% of all activity will be robotic.
Having any significant number of people in space is going to have to wait for the industry to build something like an O’Neil cylinder.
The moon is mostly not supportive
Mars wants to kill you dead
Honestly it’s not mars we need to go to – we just need to get significantly more mass into orbit. We need industry to move into space because longterm it’s the best way to rehabilitate earth.
But yeah mars is out of the question at least for now.
when i tell people who believe him that we are no where near the tech to do it, they look lime they want to bite my head off.
when i further point out that this will never happen via capitalism, because there is no profit, AND that more than likely we would have to be in a state of world peace with all countries contributing, they come in to take a bite.
I’m old enough to remember the „star wars“ program (not the movie).
The „Golden Dome“ and Elon’s mars dreams aren’t real, they are just ways to funnel more tax payer money to the wealthy.
Okay but let’s go back to the moon first? That seems like a fun place, unlike the haunting video I have seen of Mars that looks like a wasteland of death
All I’m saying is that starship is estimated to need like a dozen refueling launches for artemis, and yet he expects it to reach mars… I have my doubts to say the least
As much as I dislike Elon Musk, this article comes across like it was written by someone who knows nothing about space travel, physics, biology, history, and is simply obsessed with disliking Elon Musk. A Trump supporter I’d bet, it absolutely reeks of MAGA-level thinking and reason.
It’s also reminiscent of someone in the 1700s saying technology has reached its peak and we shouldn’t bother trying to develop anything new.
Of all the nonsense that Musk spouts, he’s a stopped-clock more often than his ex-buddy Trump is.
He’s 100% right that two chances are better than one (double in fact) and indeed was by no means the first person to say this, he’s simply parroting what many many futurologists have said for years.
Making Mars habitable is a task beyond current technology, but 99% of technology today is beyond what was capable, imaginable even, in the 1900s.
While I certainly wouldn’t want to be one of the first people there, it is worth looking at in the long run. We might be talking thousands, tens of thousands of years even, in the future. But with technological advancement being log not linear, it might be possible sooner than we think.
Going to mars is simply marketing. It takes decades to colonize Mars in any meaningful context.
I genuinely wish they succeed. Get them all as far away from this planet as possible.
Why shit all over a man trying to advance society and technology? Are you that afraid of him making money and fooling us? Let’s shoot for something big and even if it fails we will advance in that direction.
