Such a ridiculous penalty. A waste of everyones time.
That does seem kinda ridiculous, two bags of sand left on the verge just outside the property. This clearly isn’t a case of rogue builders dumping stuff on the roadside. There are so many worse actual flytipping offenders, this just seems like the enforcement officer is out for an easy ‚win‘.
3rd party enforcement. So profit motivation not procedural.
Always stupid, will never understand how councils think a 3rd party can magically outperform a salaried employee
Council contracts out fly tipping fines with an agreement that financially rewards the contracted out company for every penalty they issue – what could possibly go wrong.
I took my knackered green house to the dump this weekend.
I was told I would have to pay 16.20 per panel (front, back and two sides)
I looked at him so confused, that’s almost what the shitty thing cost me mate and pointed out how ridiculous it was.
He then proceeded to ask if it had any glass, I said no, just aluminium and plastic.
He said ok, get the aluminium out and don’t put it in the scrap metal, put it to the side, that’ll help to our bonus at the end of the year, and I won’t charge you.
When I got up there they were all super helpful in getting the aluminium out and making sure it was set to one side.
Everytime I go there the list of stuff you have to pay for now just gets longer and longer, and the more country roads I drive down the more fly tipping I see.
Im convinced that most of the fly tipping penalties are another one of these council scams. I got a penalty because a letter with my address on it was found at a fly tip site because I paid somebody on a cage truck to take some rubbish away for me and they dumped it. I had the guy loading up on my cctv. I had his phone number. I even offered the council to call him to get him back so I could catch him for them. They refused all of the evidence I offered and kept my £400 fine. I wasn’t even trying to get out of my own fine. I just hate the idea that this guys doing it for a career without any repercussions.
This is a local story for me. The home owner has a ring doorbell and the private company are claiming they issued a 24 hour notice at the property. There was no notice given and no ring doorbell footage showing that it was delivered. Bunch of cowboys.
Enforcement Officers 100% need to use context – some do, some don’t. Without looking at the specific details here it does seem common sense and context wasn’t applied.

When will councils stop using contractors. FFS, not only do they not give a shit but there is someone in the middle making a ton of money out of us.
It just needs to go to court. It doesn’t seem much of a news story tbh.

How in the fuck is this impressive if they fail 20% of the time, assuming the story is similar to this one where the penalty wasn’t justified..
Joke. Me and the wife had similar although didnt go as far. We moved a load of garden furnature (a couple of plastic chairs, plantpots etc) into our back street, neatly, right next to our rear gate. We did a couple of tip runs and on returning had a notice on our door warning us that fly tipping was illegal and our address had been noted.
What was weird was it didnt say to move it. We laughed at it and pulled everything back in (as we had always intended).
What we thought was most funny was how there were drug dealings happening from a known property a few doors up in the same back street, very open, yet when we have reported this we were met with indifference and couldnt be persued.
So hear me out: I think we should allow 3rd party enforcement, but attach electrodes to the teeth of any councillor who signs off on it and crank the voltage up slightly for every spurious notice. Things like this would drop *right* off

I don’t understand, making it hard to dispose of rubbish is counter productive and leads to more fly tipping, and potentially encourages genuine people to do it.
I had a gone off bag of postcrete, and took it to the tip. Bloke told me it was £2.50 to get rid of it, and said if I sign up on the council site and register, I get 5 free things to dispose of on the list.
I take the bag home and couple days later we needed to go to the tip. I register on the site, book an appointment, turn up at the tip and no one batters an eyelid when i chucked it into the correct bin.
It made no sense, and if as a society we’re going to generate so much rubbish, we need an efficient way of disposing it. We already pay a fortune in council tax to handle these types of things.
