This type of cruelty by the Trump administration sounds on par with the most brutal and callous actions of Germany, China and the former Soviet Union in the mid-twentieth century and it makes me very disappointed with our nation that we aren’t any better than that.

Edit: what’s even more horrifying is that these numbers have been basically known since USAID was first targeted by this regime.
If anything, these numbers are lower now that the bulk of PEPFAR has hopefully/seemingly been saved from the chopping block. The end of that program alone would have resulted in an estimated 10 million deaths.
It was the first organization targeted and yet its demise received little more than a whisper by our media and politicians, despite these atrocious consequences.
Republicans have a unique ability to gut public spending and still increase the deficit.

USAID, aside from being a utility for soft power which allowed America to exert its influence abroad without the cost of American soldiers lives, was a funder of humanitarian projects around the world. An example was they would fund a well to be dug in a remote village, providing water to people who badly needed it. Companies would bid on the project, many times American companies. In those cases, American got the benefit of the goodwill diplomacy and the money came right back into America.
They had all the Intel in the world…and they sat back and did nothing.
I wonder if China or some other country will step in. From what I read it’s highly unlikely because they focus on infrastructure rather than humanitarian aid, but it would be a way for them to look like the good guys and gain more influence. The idea that 14,000,000 people are going to die because of this one maniac is just insane.
Yeah and where the fuck were Obama and Bush at every step of this when they could have tried to raise awareness and stop this.
This is going to cause millions of deaths and we might see AIDS numbers unseen since 1990.

I don’t get why democrats don’t just plainly state that this administration prioritizes budget cuts over human life. Beat it to death. Republicans as a whole would rather be able to say they are trying to move closer to a balanced budget with USAID cuts (which is bullshit) instead of saving the lives of starving and dying children.
Break it down to its most basic form. They’re saying it’s more important to save a few pennies against trillions of deficit spending and if it costs a few million kids their lives, so be it. Make them say it out loud and own it.
