    1. On the verge is really pushing it.

      They got a court ruling allowing them to continue collecting signatures for a Volksbegehren.

      If they get enough signatures, their proposal also has to pass a general vote, where it not only need to get more yes than no votes but at least 25% of all voters need to have cast their vote.

    2. This is an ableist policy. There are people with disabilities for whom participating in activities outside their kiez is only possible if transported in a car share of private car driven by a family member.

      It’s simply not the case that all such disabilities qualify for Behinderungsgrad 50+ or special parking placards in Germany’s healthcare system.

      I really wish it were otherwise. It’s not convenient or inexpensive. But for these people and their families, there are no working alternatives.

      I’m sure I’ll get downvoted because it makes people who think of themselves as progressive uncomfortable to have their view of themselves be challenged. I just feel like it needs to be said.
