They’re illegal immigrants, should be deported. (/ irony)
A couple of choice quotes:
‘He lost all his papers’
‘On a regular basis he receives calls from Brits who have lost their passports, run out of money and are unable to return to the UK.’
Jodie said: ‚I went back to England and when I asked for benefits they wouldn’t give them to me because I had been out the country for too long, and now I’ve come home [to jSpain] and I’m an illegal immigrant.‘
Imagine if this was people who come to the UK , the tone of the article would be so different. How are all these people losing their passports? It sounds dodgy AF to me.
‚There’s nothing, you can’t find anything, you see people on social media doing a flat share, you’re looking at €400 to €200 a week for a room in a shared house. ‚The average worker is on €1100 a month, so how’s anyone supposed to survive?
That not unusual in the uK, try London…
The article talks about exploitation but doesn’t care to address just who are the culprits. I’ve got my guesses but you’d think an actual journalist piece would deliver more than „here’s some homeless Brits“ but then again I understand this is an ass rag of a news site.
Wait, the DAILY MAIL published this?
I’ve just died from an irony overdose.
> She eventually returned, but then found out she was no longer legally able to reside in Spain – making it impossible to find a job
Send ‘em to Rwanda
The irony of this piece…they don’t extend to same concern to foreigners (or even British!) sleeping rough in the UK…
If they don’t have a passport, they can get a new one. If they want to fly home to the UK, you can get an emergency travel document from the embassy.
If they don’t have status in the EU, they should be removed to the UK.
If they have a passport, are legal residents in the EU but are just broke. That’s unlucky. If you can’t get a job there maybe try somewhere else.
Bloody foreigners! Coming to Spain and trying to sponge off the system!
If you ‚lose your passport‘ you go to the embassy and get an emergency passport. If you don’t have the money to pay for it and are stranded abroad, you still go to the embassy for advice. You don’t just start sleeping rough in a foreign country?
Yer! They shud be delighted that they ave there Sovrinnty. No forriners can take away are Sovrinnty
How inhumane the Spanish are for not spending the euro equivalent of £41k per head annually on these people to put them up in hotels.
Why is this sub filled with Daily Mail and Express articles now?
I guess we’re meant to feel sorry for the British illegal immigrants then, daily mail?
You mean they’re not getting their Brexit dividend?
Oh no! Anyway.
“In several scenarios tourists have found themselves waking up in prison without their passport and upon release are forced to stay in Spain with nowhere to live until they get a court date.”
So criminals causing trouble in another country? Is waking up in prison a must-do while on holiday?
I know someone in a similar plight but in Netherlands, he eventually got back after handing himself to immigration and getting held for months. No home, no job, no benefits, he wanted to go to prison.
Daily Mail and a pity story about illegal immigrants?
Sounds about white
I know a few Brits living very cheaply in Spain/Europe because they’ve essentially been priced out of the UK, though obviously sleeping rough is a whole different thing.
A lot of people voted leave because politicians like Boris Johnson lied to then about Brexir thinking things would be a lot better when we leave Europe. What has happened since ? More immigrants than before, more boats coming in etc…..And Boris Johnson living large having more babies he can afford. Yet, people are voting Reform. When will people learn ? Politicians are the same . They only care about themselves!
Spanish citizenship can be a bit tricky. It’s not necessarily straightforward.
I worked out in Benidorm for a while on a particular show with the same name. So many of the brits who lived out there were so rude about the Spanish, completely refused to learn the language and treated the place like shit. At times we were embarrassed by them out there. When brexit happened all of them had voted to leave, it was all get the foreigners out of the uk. Non of them quite got the issue with us leaving and since I’ve been back there are a lot of people living there illegally
Britain is now islamibad so it’s now it’s a third world country…
