Why isn’t this mandatory anyway? If your job is to vote on bills, shouldn’t you know what’s in them?

Do what you gotta do to deal with these brown short nazi wannabe fascists.

The „journalists“ folding and going along with it, you don’t deserve to call yourself one anymore.

    3. They should make Grassley read it. He’d read it so slowly and would probably fall asleep, giving us a couple weeks of reprieve.

    4. Popculturemofo on

The problem is the MAGAs will just go “nuh uh” even when you read it to them.

    5. whatproblems on

don’t just read it, let’s see the differences to what’s actually in place and analysis.

    6. moonscience on

Needs to be read in ELI5 format so that congress members can actually understand it.

    7. Oh God, imagine RFK Jr. reading it. I would hope it would blow out what’s left of his vocal cords.

I want to know when they’ll start. I’d like to see if I can read Infinite Jest before they finish the bill.

    9. This should be required for every single bill that gets voted on in both chambers. It’s fucking insane that these assholes are allowed to vote on laws when they don’t even know what is in them let alone understand the content or it’s ramifications.

TLDR: The bill itself is packed full of [perks for Republican lawmakers](https://archive.ph/o/Sf41j/https://www.thedailybeast.com/maga-senators-use-donald-trumps-bill-to-hand-themselves-massive-perk/) and [threats to democracy](https://archive.ph/o/Sf41j/https://www.thedailybeast.com/hidden-threat-to-democracy-slipped-into-trumps-big-beautiful-bill/)

Marjorie Taylor Greene [expressed her regret](https://archive.ph/o/Sf41j/https://www.thedailybeast.com/marjorie-taylor-greene-admits-she-didnt-read-trump-mega-bill-she-voted-for/) she admitted she didn’t know what was in it.

[Trump wrote](https://archive.ph/o/Sf41j/https://www.thedailybeast.com/trump-hates-one-part-of-his-big-beautiful-bill-giant-scam/) that he “hates” the “green tax credits” buried deep in the the monstrous tome.

The ‘One, Big, Beautiful Bill Act’—comes in at 940 pages, just shy of the entire The Lord of the Rings trilogy.

In the time it takes Frodo to walk from the Shire to the fires of Mount Doom, Republicans lay out a sprawling series of measures that include $3.8 trillion in tax cuts and spending that could add as much as $4.5 trillion to the national debt over the next decade.

Why is this not standard operating procedure? And look at Chuck. Vowing to do something.

Fox News has convinced the right that all  government handouts go to illegal aliens/brown people.  Time for them to „find out“.

    13. SublimeApathy on

Good. Read it slowly and have Q&A after each paragraph. Really eat up some time.

They need to make some very dramatic pauses with added commentary at places like the carve out for Alaskans on snap being expert from the work requirements they’re placing on everyone else, with video zooming in on murkowski

    15. Most-Artichoke6184 on

If you made Trump read it, it would take the rest of his presidency.

    16. It will still pass. We had power with Biden but he hired garland and could have deemed Trump a threat but here we are. He was a good man but we need someone who fights like McConnell but for the good of the people

    17. I feel like all dems should abstain. Let Republicans take full credit for this bill. All on the left should quietly withdraw as much as feasible from the economy and just shut up. Let the dildo of consequences arrive unlubed then go out and flip it all on its head during primary and midterms.

    18. Pro_Gamer_Queen21 on

That only works if the people you’re trying to convince know how to actively listen and think in the long term.

    19. jdaboss4110 on

Democrats had the chance to be ruthless fuckers like republicans and instead spent 12 years twiddling their dicks. Now we’re reduced to performative stunts.

    20. How do we know that they’re paying attention and reading along and not actually goofing off on their phones?  They themselves should be taking turns to read this out loud.

    21. Aggressive-Will-4500 on

Every bill that doesn’t reach a super-majority threshold should be read out loud on a publicly available broadcast, followed by a 2-week period for public discourse, and THEN both Houses of Congress can vote on it.

    22. They need to keep this up. Obstruct like McConnell would back in the day.

    23. Za_Lords_Guard on

It might be performative and only serve as a delay, but it does one additional thing. It removes the „I didn’t read that part“ defense when the Rs go back to their districts and catch hell for passing it, they can’t claim ignorance. Chucky made sure the whole thing was read to them.

    24. BusterStarfish on

They’ll pussy out and half the party will vote for it anyway. This is just bullshit grandstanding for the Dems who still believe party leadership cares about them.
