To me, it feels like a „thin“ plot would be great if writing an adaptation! You have way more creative freedom rather than having to regurgitate whatever was already there.

It’s really not that difficult. Hotel is haunted. Main ghost enslaves other ghosts for their power. Main ghost way of killing is through the elevator. Deaths are covered up by possessed humans. New group comes in for a retreat or whatever. They start to put together clues. Find out the main character has unresolved murder and has it out for the world. New group finds murderer and ghost is released from the hotel. Or so we thought. It’s ends with the husband being the murderer and dies to become the new ghost for the sequel. NEXT

I say embrace the Twilight Zone heritage and make it an anthology film. Heck, cross-pollinate it with Four Rooms, and have every story be about someone staying at the titular hotel.
Opening scene tells the story of the Tower of Terror ride, and then how different owners have struggled to reopen the hotel ever since. Have each story set in a different decade/era as someone new buys the hotel, opens it, and something twilight zone-y happens, leading to either a change of ownership or another closing.
And if they really feel like they need to, have the last story include the elevator for a big SFX-heavy finale. Go nuts.
