      Snippets:

      * Senate Republicans have come up with a plan to help pay for President Donald Trump’s “big beautiful” budget bill by hiking retirement contributions for pretty much everyone but themselves.
      * The latest draft of the bill requires federal employees to contribute 15.6 percent of their salaries to their retirement, up from the 4.4 percent that employees hired after 2014 currently contribute and the 9.4 percent included in the original version of the budget bill, [*Politico*](https://archive.is/o/vi3c4/https://www.politico.com/live-updates/2025/06/26/congress/senate-republicans-pension-reform-plan-reconciliation-00427889) reported.
      * The draft reconciliation text conveniently includes a carve-out exempting members of Congress and their staff from the higher rates, according to *Politico*. Federal law enforcement would also be exempt from the new contributions, along with a proposed 10 percent fee on union dues deductions.
      * *Democrats have warned that changing the pension contributions would make public service a less attractive and viable career path, degrading the quality of the civil service.*

    2. In effect, government employees who managed to keep their jobs will *still* get a 10% cut in take-home pay.

Politicians MUST get the same benefits as the poorest Americans which means similar wages per hour and healthcare and all that for them to give a fuck

Congress should get the same insurance and benefits as other federal workers. They shouldn’t get special treatment.

The usual self dealing from our elected officials. Let’s see how many Dems go along with this.

I thought they were all rich and just ran for office to help their people

    8. As a civil service job, I think that congress should be forced to buy their own retirememt amd insurance plans from the free market. The money paid to these people should be cut.

    9. Why wouldn’t they? Their voting base seems excited about creating more wealth inequality and increasing corruption. Trump has them thinking down is up.

    10. And then they wonder why socialism is on the rise when blatant corporation like this is happening constantly.

Corrupt bags of shit. Remember Mars Attacks and they blew up Congress? We definitely need a visit from Mars.

Are they forgetting Reagan already gutted the old and more generous Civil Service Retirement System (CSRS) with the creation of the Federal Employees Retirement System (FERS) in the 1980’s?

FERS is designed to fully fund itself and has historically operated with a surplus.

They’re presuming to „fix“ something that was already „fixed“ many years ago.

In my opinion a well-compensated Federal workforce minimizes the amount of corruption as we see in other countries that do not compensate their government employees well. Mexico being a good example where public employees regularly supplement their income with La Mordida.

i mean, do you expect congress to vote for a pay cut to themselves? or anyone, for that matter?

Congress should only have access to the lowest health care plan available on the Marketplace and limited to raises equal to 3% or inflation.
