The father of a Trump-supporting Latino family in Florida who has been detained and faces deportation says he thought President Donald Trump was only going to go after criminals regarding immigration.
He appears to be one of a growing number of migrants supporting President Donald Trump who did not realize the full implications of his administration’s mass deportation policies.
Newsweek contacted U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) via email and President Trump’s office via online form for comment on Friday.

What a lot of Trump supporters don’t realize is that the overwhelming majority of these people here in America don’t have criminal histories whatsoever. So when someone promises mass deportations you’re going to get people with zero criminal history who have paid taxes in America for often times decades getting deported. This is why the mass hysteria never made a lick of sense. It’s one thing to secure borders it’s another thing to do shit like this.
I deeply think we should arrest and deport all Trump’s supporters. They are traitors.

I was reading a study a few days ago that found that the reason less intelligent people are more often getting into trouble or not getting their life together is because they lack a model in their head of reality that allows them to accurately project future outcomes based on current circumstances.
Dumb and uneducated people can’t comprehend what might happen. They couldn’t even conceptualize that the racist republican platform might define “criminal” to include themselves. They struggle with gullibility and take Trump at face value. Example: “He said we would be great”.
When Ben Franklin said “Democracy if you can keep it”, this is what he meant. We can have a democracy if we are smart and informed enough to defend (uphold the constitution), improve upon it (more perfect union), and identify people who might want to damage or destroy it for their own benefit (protect against enemies BOTH foreign and domestic).
I would like to say people warned him, but we don’t even need to go that far.

The guy who is guilty on 34 counts of felony fraud and was found liable for sexually abusing a woman lied?! How shocking 🙄 something like around half the people Trump has caught and detained have no criminal backgrounds. It was never about criminals but about brown people.

All fascists, and by extension most Trump supporters, do not believe that committing any sort of crime is inherently wrong, but rather that it should be their exclusive privilege. That’s why they assault women with abandon but howl for the death penalty when a migrant does it. Rape isn’t wrong, brown men step out of line when they do it.
Similarly, Trump-supporting immigrants believe that they are the exception. Maybe because they’re white hispanic, maybe because they are an evangelical Christian, something makes them believe that they are entitled to live here, and the other immigrants aren’t. The miscalculation they make is that they believe they are in the in-group.
That’s also why it’s so hard for them to come to terms when they do experience persecution they helped create. It never occurred to them that anyone wouldn’t consider them part of the in-group. They believe they’re entitled to commit any crime, live wherever they want, and have whatever lifestyle they please. It’s extra sad when they, in fact, *are* entitled to whatever they are being punished for, as in this case.
These are the people who got mad that they were being called stupid
