That’s brickies fucked then. All this computer „progress“ doesn’t feel like progress at all.

This build doesn’t seem to be using mortar, though there’s not much information in the article and I can’t find a video of the robot on you tube.
Non standard construction will be a tough sell, particularly if mortgage providers don’t like it.
Will it have a copy of the Sport and a cup of sweet tea nearby? If not, then the robots will have learned nothing!
I’m always skeptical of stuff like this. Maybe I’m just an asshole. Unproven adhesives instead of mortar with no independent studies done to assess them, specialist bricks which creates a closed loop system in the supply chain, and it can only handle the repetitive tasks and not door or window openings for instance. The height also is a concern as you’re looking a bungalows basically or constrating building methods and materials for a taller house.
Maybe we just shouldn’t leave it to the private sector and create a GB Building industry, if there really is a need for wide scale investment in people. Or just be consistent in building infrastructure and then the private sector wouldn’t collapse every few years from pulled funding.

Economists have been trying to get construction to be less labour involved for a long time. Off site, modular, robots. They don’t care, as long as working humans aren’t costing them so much money.

Look at the 3D printed housing in America! This country is way behind. It doesn’t help that house builders are just sitting on land.

The lack of mortar and reliance on unproven adhesives is definitely concerning, especially without long-term durability testing. And yeah, if this thing can only build bungalows with special bricks, it’s hardly the housing revolution we were promised.

These fucking robots have been just around the corner for about 10 years. They still need people on site checking work and signing it off.

We can do lots of stuff with robotics but that does not translate to real world applications right away
A machine that runs all day flat out, just add six bacon rolls and three scoops of speed into the inbuilt hopper, and watch it go flat out until it’s got knackered hydraulics at 32.
But is the wall one Kit Kat out of plumb and does it leave a bottle of apple juice behind as a gift? If not, it won’t be suitable for UK housebuilding.
If it’s not robot brick layers, it was going to be factory made prefab houses. I’ve heard of houses made from an upscaled version of 3d printing.

Always remember articles like this appears because PR teams feed the story to journalists. This is an attempt to sell these robots and sell the concept that they will replace bricklayers.
It can’t do it on it’s own. It can’t get the bricks from more than a set distance away, something or someone brings the terracotta bricks to it.
It can’t build a house in one day, it can only lay that specific style of brick.
RIP the humble bricky.
In all serious, though, AI and automation is going to be a massive issue for employment sooner rather than later.
Ok and once you’ve replaced all those people doing those jobs they’re suppose to do what? What happens when all the other jobs are automated? Or done by Ai? How exactly are people going to afford to do anything or buy anything when there’s very limited jobs.
