Really good tactics book about the Chechens is Fangs of the Lone Wolf.

They had great tactics, a notable one to me was that they took advantage of Russias poor comms skills.

They would hide in alleys and wait for 2 Russian columns to pass by on both sides of a city block. Come out in the middle and shoot at both groups then retreat. Russians would then engage the other Russians down the street and blue on blue casualties would occur.

    2. Chechnya v Russian footage on newsgroups ( think even more archaic version of 4 chan, for the younger folks) was my enlightenment and „welcome to reality“ experience as a young adult.

    3. Second Chechen war is honestly just bad guys vs bad guys. One side are terrorists, and another side are totalitarian regime that tortures and kidnaps everyone (in the late stages a lot of cops and VV troops were Chechen, so it was chechens against chechens, they were just loyal to different warlords and it just happened that one warlord is loyal to putin)
