The aircraft were flying in support of the [511th Parachute Infantry Regiment](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/511th_Infantry_Regiment_(United_States)) commanded by [Colonel Edward Henry Lahti](https://511pir.com/trooper-bios/officers/colonel-edward-henry-lahti-511.html) who was so impressed by the effectiveness of the bombardment that he penned [this letter](https://pbs.twimg.com/media/GuSn0SOW4AARcdM?format=png&name=large) to his counterpart in the 3rd Bomb Group to express his appreciation.
