Nobody has done more to help the modern GOP than the feckless and corrupt centrist democratic establishment.
If the DNC and GOP are both scared of a candidate’s success, that’s a pretty good sign that they’ve hit on something popular. More of this, please!

Imagine being mad about a guy winning who wants to dramatically improve the lives of the average person in the city with populist, equitable policies. It’s really crazy how fascist and self destructive MAGA is. They hate everything good and are cartoonishly evil and corrupt.

CrimsonFeetofKali on
The Democratic Party is fractured. The centrists view a path to power as being a more moderate form of MAGA – some of the policy, none of the crazy. And that’s, in my view, a political gift to the Republicans as it’s really challenging to differentiate yourself in that environment when you’re tied to things like ethical behavior and truth-telling.
And then there’s the left. It speaks to younger people. It takes positions, even it they’re unrealistic and has aspirations. It’s not just reactionary politics. It’s not just a modification on the theme. Mamdani showed this path has strength, especially when paired against a flawed establishment candidate like Cuomo. Be bold, put forward policies reflective of your values, and don’t just reflect how an issue might be polling. And odd as this might sound, that’s the takeaway from MAGA that the Democrats need to follow.
So if centrists are „some of the policy and none of the crazy,“ a true left is going to run as „none of their policy and a good kind of crazy“ that’s people-oriented. There’s a lesson for the DNC and Democrats across the country here. The challenge is it’s a leaderless party, a party in disarray and one that is continually and painfully slow to learn lessons.

The DNC may be melting down though. Hope they start to listen and pay attention to who is getting votes. Time for the old guard to go.

There is one very big thing that scares both establishment Democrats and MAGA about Mamdani. In their eyes despite him being a Muslim/Socialist/Millenial and whatever other labels they are trying to slur him with…Mamdani has succeeded in something they have failed to do well in NY for a while and in the rest of the country to an extent…
Connect with their local constituents. Mamdani may have spoken about ‚ideal policies‘ but he explained them to people in a way that resonated with them and spoke to THEIR specific issues. The policies were also not complicated…i.e. freeze rent on stabilized apartments because even these apartments (far from luxury apartments) were becoming unaffordable for the people they were intended for. Programs to make childcare more affordable within the City, etc. He also was on the ground a lot more. Walking through the city and taking selfies with people on the street while just talking with them without specific ‚press events‘. I live in downtown Manhattan and over the past couple of months, I’ve seen Mamdani 3 times in person (with no intention of actually doing so). One time when I was shopping and he was outside the store just talking to people…no media, another time in Midtown when I was leaving from work he was talking with a bunch of people, looks like he was just finishing a town hall or rally or talk or something nearby and finally I was riding along the West Side Highway over the weekend and saw him just chilling and talking to people across the way…he was there for a while because I saw him there with a larger group on my return trip…it didn’t look like a formal rally but not sure.
In Contrast, Cuomo was constantly putting out awkward „How do you do fellow New Yorker’s?“ type ads and staged events while making it clear that he really doesn’t connect well with people. He also very blatantly was playing politics by snubbing groups he felt couldn’t help him this time around…Actively shunning LGBTQ+ groups that supported him as Governor, etc. So while actively courting certain bloqs of voters with marginal success, he actively pushed away multiple bloqs that while not powerful on their own, ended up being mad enough to lump Cuomo in with Adams and put out large scale ad campaigns to say „vote for whichever progressive/working families candidates you want, but do not include Cuomo/Adams on your slate at all“.
Another big one is NY folks have seen the evergreen „HIRE MORE NYPD OFFICERS“ from pretty much all the other candidates which has not really moved the needle on actual crime in NY (which has been down for a while despite high profile stories). Mamdani instead managed to break away from the „Defund the Police“ label and actually put forward a plan to maintain the NYPD and „Let the police be police“ while creating a proper commissioner level position and agency to offload and handle „Community Safety“ similar to the initiative which handles and offloaded over 100k calls when tested in Albuquerque recently. Instead of talking about defunding or reducing the budget, he explained more specifics on specific tasks that the police would not need to perform anymore and reallocating those resources + other funding mechanisms to create the new department.
These are all scary policies to CorpDems and MAGA but in reality they are fairly milquetoast common sense things which are worth at least trying. Mamdani offered ’simple change when trying the same thing over and over clearly hasn’t worked‘

I mean… that’s a pretty good sign that he’s a good candidate then. If the candidate was left wing extremist crackpot who is going to make democrats look bad, they’d be over the moon about it.
