So, Spain has said they won’t increase NATO contributions because that would mean cutting social programs and other essential spending. Why doesn’t Canada have the guts to to the same?
We should just be honest with the public and everyone and not agree to outrageous commitments. 2% was always a sticky trap that shortcutted through discourse on our actual defensive needs.
Does anyone have a convincing argument they’d like to share as why Canada should not acquire a nuclear weapon ? We have unpredictable neighbours down south who “joke” about invading us and essentially dictate our foreign policy, and wish to control our natural resources.
We have Russia to our north with a strategic nuclear posture against the back drop of new shipping lanes opening in the north in the near future which is vital for Canada to be able to assert its sovereignty over .
I don’t see Russia invading Ukraine or Israel attacking Iran if they had nukes.
