Education is collapsing. The far right are up to 15% of the vote. A World ecological disaster is all but inevitable. Multiple nuclear powers are involved in multiple wars. The uk economy is on the verge of collapse. No one can afford a house. And this is what the government are fucking about at.

This is excellent news. The internet will be a better place with a wide variety of search engines and the like to choose from.

I personally use [DuckDuckGo](https://duckduckgo.com) as my main search engine, but there are some really interesting ones out there if you look off the beaten track. [Marginalia](https://marginalia-search.com/) is a search engine that prioritises non-commercial content, for example, while [Wiby](https://wiby.org) is great for personal websites and the like.

The article doesn’t say this outright, but I guess it’s because Google is the default search engine on Chrome and Android (and Safari.) It’s not quite a monopoly as you can find an alternative easy enough but you could argue Google are abusing their browser and OS position to push people to more of their services. Especially when their main mobile competitor also uses Google search and Microsoft’s Edge browser is now built on Chrome as well.

The internet is dominated by a handful of companies so I suppose it’s good to have something breaking that up a bit. Trouble is I’ve tried a load of other search engines and Google is still the best one so I wonder how effective it will be.
